Carl Kihm, DPM, is a board-certified fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons and a diplomat of the American Board of Podiatric Surgery. He specializes in foot and ankle reconstructive surgeries in pediatric and adult patients at Louisville Foot and Ankle Specialists. The practice has offices in Louisville, Leitchfield, Elizabethtown, Shepherdsville, Fern Creek, and Jeffersonville, Kentucky.
Dr. Kihm was born, raised, and trained in Pennsylvania. In 2009, he earned his doctoral degree from Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Then, he completed a three-year surgical residency training program at DeKalb Medical Center in Decatur, Georgia.
After practicing for four more years in Georgia, Dr. Kihm moved to Louisville in 2016. Here, he is active in training residents and students at the Norton podiatric residency program. Dr. Kihm is a caring and thorough clinician and surgeon. He treats patients as if they were his family and finds satisfaction in helping others.
Dr. Kihm specializes in the surgical management of complex congenital deformity and pediatric surgery (clubfoot, polydactyly, flatfoot conditions, tarsal coalitions, juvenile bunions), revision surgery in those who had previous unsuccessful outcomes, traumatic foot and ankle injuries, arthritic conditions, Charcot foot, neuromuscular conditions (spina bifida, polio, cerebral palsy, Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease, stroke), and elective forefoot procedures (bunion and hammertoe repair, etc.).
Dr. Kihm is a faculty member of the Podiatry Institute, an international teaching foundation for reconstructive surgery. He has also authored surgery textbook chapters and many journal articles. Dr. Kihm has also completed seven surgery mission trips in Nepal and Guatemala.
With limited resources, Dr. Kihm volunteers his time, heart, and expertise to treat pediatric patients with severe congenital conditions and adult patients with neglected congenital deformities. For these humanitarian efforts, he was awarded the “Community Hero Award” in 2015 by MedShare.
In 2016, Dr. Kihm's team’s mission work was also recognized on The Doctor’s television show in a segment called “Life Changing Surgeries.”
