About Practice

Northland Orthopedics & Sports Medicine in Kansas City, Missouri, offers the area access to practitioners skilled in treating issues of the shoulder, hip, knee, and other facets of the musculoskeletal system.  

In 2017, Steven Smith, MD, opened the practice and was joined by Dustin Woyski, DO, along with three physician’s assistants and an advanced practice nurse. Together, the team diagnoses and treats musculoskeletal problems, ranging from broken bones and tendonitis to joint deterioration. 

At Northland Orthopedics & Sports Medicine, the team diagnoses sports injuries and other personal injuries using physical examinations, X-rays, and a careful analysis of the patient’s symptoms. Some of the conditions these practitioners diagnose and treat include fractures, sprains, strains, muscle tears, hip pain, shoulder pain, knee pain, sports injuries, and joint degeneration and deterioration. 

Once the team understands the problem, they decide on either a nonsurgical or surgical treatment approach. For instance, a doctor may recommend physical rehabilitation or a brace. A member of the team may also use other techniques, such as medications, to help the patient manage pain and heal.  

Sometimes, surgery is the best option. For example, the Northland Orthopedics & Sports Medicine team may recommend joint replacement due to arthritis, degeneration, or a serious injury.
