About Dr. A Heron, MD

Cosmetic surgeon and medical aesthetic specialist, Roy Heron, MD, offers expert treatments to help patients look and feel their best at his practice, Heron Med Spa in Alexandria, Virginia. He’s also a weight-loss specialist who has an innovative approach to healthy eating. In 2001, the USDA called Dr. Heron the “the Father of the Moderate Carbohydrate Diet” after years of study and research. He has guided and motivated patients of all ages to successful and healthy weight loss with a real-food, holistic approach.

In 2010, former President Bill Clinton asked Dr. Heron to develop a childhood obesity program, the first comprehensive program for overweight children in the country.

Dr. Heron was one of the first bariatric specialists in the country to master a noninvasive laser technique for removing cellulite – Smartlipo laser-assisted liposuction. He was asked by the largest laser company in the world, CynosureⓇ, to collaborate on laser aesthetic technology. Dr. Heron trains doctors on the most advanced body-sculpting techniques. 

Dr. Heron completed his residency in emergency medicine at Howard University where he also studied nutrition. He is a certified member of the Society of Aesthetics in Medicine in laser liposuction and has performed more than 8,000 Smartlipo procedures. Dr. Heron is trained on a multitude of devices, including the SmartLipo devices:  MPX & Triplex, SculpSure, and Thermiva.
