I want to say thank you to Southdale for consistenly having the best care team I've ever seen. I recommend Southdale to everyone, even for those further away I tell them it is more than worth the drive. This care team has given meShow more so much hope and made me wish that every provider i see was like the Southdale team. The level of compassion, concern, empathy, attentiveness, not rushing calls or visits, and vested interest in patients as people is unprecedented. I feel that my medical team cares about my well-being, happiness, safety, and challenges and is willing to partner with me to determine the best path forward for my situation. Even when I can't be seen by my doctor, I know i will get the care I need. This was my first experience with Dr. Curran. After several trips to urgent care, testing, and imaging with no real solutions, Dr. Curran improved my short-term situation in a matter of hours. I can't explain the relief and gratitude I am feeling right now for Dr. Curran for listening and helping me during a very difficult time. His facts all made sense. He felt a biopsy would be the best option and urine test so I will know more soon. I am sooooo fortunate to get in promptly.. to it be forced into over phone appts .. and to know I can always trust his judgement. I do not seen often but he know me and I can not imagine how I will handle if he is not available for any reason . In all my years of having other doctors … has been exceptional . I am confident what ever is next he will have a solution.
David Curran, MD, is a board-certified Physician in Obstetrics and Gynecology. The practice has two locations with offices in Edina and Burnsville, Minnesota.
He earned a Bachelor of Arts from Pepperdine University in Malibu, California, followed by a Doctor of Medicine from Dartmouth Medical School in Hanover, New Hampshire. He completed his residency at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis.
“The joke about me is I used to be a pitcher — and now I’m a catcher!” says Dr. Curran, with a grin. In the late 1970s, right out of college, Curran pitched in the Milwaukee Brewers’ minor-league system for two and a half seasons before being sidelined with an elbow injury.
He had to decide — to have surgery on his arm and keep playing baseball or accept an offer of admission from Dartmouth Medical School, which was a dream come true. He believes life unfolds for a reason, and he always knew he wanted to be a doctor.
His life plan became even more apparent during his first medical school rotations in OBGYN. On one of the rotation's first nights, I was on a call with an OB doctor. His beeper went off, and he said, ‘Let’s go. It’s time to attend a delivery!”
Dr. Curran always thought he would be a sports doctor, but he’ll never forget that night on rotation. He’d never seen anything born and was overwhelmed, amazed, and moved. He thought to himself, ‘This is it.’
Dr. Curran likes to play golf and travel, but he devotes most of his leisure time to family activities.
He and his wife, Dr. Dina Curran (a pediatrician at Southdale Pediatrics), have three children: a daughter who’s talented in the performing arts, a son who’s an Army officer, and another son who plays college baseball and has been guaranteed acceptance into Medical school.

Dr. Curran was amazing, attentive and funny! Great experience!

Dr Curran literally saved my life in 1996 when he heard something strange in my heart beat and referred me to a cardiologist! I have been able to manage my heart disease all these years thanks to his great medical care by finding it in a routine physical! He was there for me throughout two high risk pregnancies and has called me when he sees my heart test results! He goes over and above as a physician and new physician could learn a lot from him and his approach of caring and concern!
Dr. Curran is so empathetic. He has a thoughtful yet easy way of explaining things that helps so much. I feel like I’m in the best care. I trust him.

I switched to Dr. Curran a few years ago because my OB/GYN at Southdale retired. I decided on Dr. Curran because when having my three babies he was one of the doctors that delivered my middle. He was the best of all my deliveries. So kind so conscientious, and so professional and knowledgeable. I thought I wanted another female OBGYN, but after meeting Dr. Curran, that changed. I had a follow-up appointment with Dr. Curran — he was my surgeon this past year and I so appreciate all of the care that he gave me. I had certain things that I wanted to tell him and I had a few questions to ask. We had a nice visit and all of my questions were answered. He has been my doctor for many years (about 20) and, in all that time, he has never rushed me. He is a very caring person and that quality shows up in everything that he says and does. I feel fortunate that he has been my doctor over all of these years.
