Dr. Gilbert is a wonderful doctor. I do drive about 1 hour away but I only trust him with my eyes . He explains all procedures so I clearly understand . He allows my daughter to part of our conversation via phone as she does notShow more live close by . If I have questions after leaving his office he does get back to you. David D. Gilbert, MD, is a board-certified ophthalmologist specializing in cataract surgery and glaucoma. He practices at Diablo Eye Associates in Walnut Creek, California.
Dr. Gilbert grew up in the east bay of San Francisco and later graduated from the University of California, Davis, with a degree in mechanical engineering and a master’s in biomedical engineering. He completed his glaucoma fellowship training at Stanford University.
Dr. Gilbert received his Medical Degree from Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He stayed at Wake Forest for his ophthalmology residency, where he served as co-chief resident and twice received the resident research award for his publications on glaucoma surgical advances. After residency, Dr. Gilbert returned to the West Coast to complete glaucoma fellowship training at Stanford University and was on the clinical staff. He has authored several papers and given numerous lectures related to glaucoma care.
Dr. Gilbert is a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, a member of the American Glaucoma Society, and a member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. He currently serves as a counselor for the Glaucoma Research Foundation. He has been a clinical faculty instructor at the University of California, San Francisco, and a past chair of the Ophthalmology department at John Muir Medical Center, Walnut Creek. As a glaucoma subspecialist, he has expertise in the medical and surgical management of glaucoma. Dr. Gilbert has performed cataract procedures, glaucoma surgeries, and laser surgeries for over 17 years.

I had cataract surgery years ago by another doctor and she really messed my eye up!! After I found Dr. Gilbert, I was hesitant to have cataract surgery on my other eye but finally relented and he did the best job ever. Even with my bad eye, he improved my over all vision. I would recommend him highly!!

Dr. Gilbert is the best. Patient, friendly, knowledgeable. Discusses treatment options openly describing pluses and minuses and comes to a consensus. Why only 2 stars?? Wait time is out of control. 2 weeks ago, after waiting 45 minutes beyond my appointment time, I was told I’d have to wait another 30-40 minutes. I left. When my new appointment came, called to see if Dr. Gilbert was running late. They said 20 minutes late. So I arrived 15 minutes past my original appointment time. I still had to wait another HOUR!! Scheduling manager should be fired.
Dr. Gilbert has cared for my parents and me for many years. He is as skilled as he is knowledgeable. We all have benefited from his care and feel blessed to have found him.
