About Dr. James Rothstein, MD
James Rothstein, MD, is an experienced vascular surgeon who provides personalized care at Washington Vascular Specialists, with three locations in Takoma Park, Bladensburg, and Frederick, Maryland.
Dr. Rothstein received his medical degree from Robert Wood Johnson-Rutgers Medical School and completed his Vascular Surgery Fellowship at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio.
Dr. Rothstein most recently practiced at Portsmouth Regional Hospital and has spent almost 19 years in the Navy, with 15 years of active service. His service includes acting as a trauma surgeon on a forward operating base in Afghanistan. He is certified in wound care with 10 years of experience and was previously director of numerous wound care centers. Demonstrating extreme knowledge of peripheral arterial disease, Dr. Rothstein was also director of two peripheral angiography departments with the responsibility that involved the teaching of technique and anatomy to the staff.
Dr. Rothstein’s areas of expertise encompass a wide range of more than 400 vascular procedures performed annually, including: open and endovascular lower extremity revascularization inclusive of total occlusions and a full range of dialysis access comprised of the creation, fistulagram, and the treatment of thrombosed accesses. Dr. Rothstein also possesses an impressive range of venous practices and treatment, including but not limited to endovenous ablations, micro phlebectomy, and sclerotherapy foam and liquid.
