I had a ruptured ACL in my right knee that I was unaware of and that led to a complex tear in my medial meniscus (bucket handle and flap). I got a referral from my physician to visit an orthopedic surgeon who diagnosed the meniscaShow morel tear but not the ruptured ACL. His recommendation was to have the torn part of the meniscus removed. That sounded foolish to me because through my research I learned that removing meniscus almost always leads to early arthritis in the joint and eventually a full knee replacement. I'm 43 and really wanted to avoid any need for an artificial joint if I could. So I looked for a surgeon who could repair the meniscus tear and came across Dr. Saliman and his meniscal repair technique. I'm very happy I did. He was able to arthroscopically repair the torn meniscus and replace the ruptured ACL. And he did stellar work. I'm now four months post surgery and almost to the end of my physical therapy sessions. My knee is healing up nicely and I've already almost regained full range of motion in the joint and full strength in the leg. Having a torn meniscus repaired rather than removed requires a bit more healing time and commitment but it is well worth it in the long run to avoid a knee replacement (replaced joints just don't function nearly as well as a natural ones). Please do your research before committing having your torn meniscus cut out. Check into Dr. Saliman's repair method - it is truly amazing. Many orthopedic surgeons will tell you that most meniscus tears, especially large ones on the inner portion of the meniscus can't be repaired because of poor blood flow to the tissue. The success of my surgery is proof that is not true. Dr. Saliman is a talented and caring surgeon and I can't recommend him highly enough.
Dr. Saliman is an amazing surgeon. We drove about 8 hours to Southern California for the surgery, because based on my research, I concluded my best chance at a successful meniscus repair are higher with him than any other surgeon Show morein the world. He invented and patented a type of meniscus repair that most doctors and patients aren’t aware of yet, so I’m fortunate that I was able to find out about him as well as the technique. Dr. Saliman successfully repaired my meniscus when every other surgeon told me that I would need to have it removed and expect arthritis and a knee replacement in the future. Don’t hesitate in seeing Dr. Saliman. On a side note, he’s a truly humble guy. He’s much more accomplished than other surgeons and doctors in the past, but doesn’t have the ego that many others possess. He’s patient, he listens, and he always remains focused on understanding the problem, and working towards the best outcome.
Justin D. Saliman, MD, located in Beverly Hills, is a Stanford sports medicine trained orthopaedic surgeon operating out of Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles. He is the founder of Ceterix® Orthopaedics and the inventor of the NovoStitch® Pro Meniscal Repair System, which was acquired by a large medical device company called Smith & Nephew in 2019. I had the first consult with Dr. Saliman via zoom a few days ago. Dr. Saliman was kind, compassionate, straightforward, and thorough in explaining my options and their pros and cons. Before meeting with Dr. Saliman, I discovered that no top orthopedic surgeons would take my meniscus tears seriously, they made it so hard for me even to get an appointment. I then learned that they had neither the interest nor the expertise to treat my kind of injury. Fortunately, I learned about Dr. Saliman's expertise in meniscus tear repair using his novel circumferential stitch. Before meeting Dr. Saliman, I thought I had to live with the constant fear of not being able to walk. But he assured me that I don't have to. I'm looking forward to getting my meniscus tears repaired by him. While I don't know yet what the outcome will be, I now know that there is hope.

My meniscus was torn. The first Dr I visited said I need surgery and it’d only take 15 min, which sounded like a quick McDonalds job (removal is cheap for them). The physical therapists I saw at the time all said not to remove meniscus, so I found out about Dr Saliman who then repaired it. Quick response. Skillful specialist. He explained the process very well. Nice guy. Highly recommended!!
