Got questions for
Dr. Lawrence Salob, DO?
Lawrence Salob, DO, FACOFP, is a family medicine and osteopathic medicine physician practicing at Evia Medical Center in Long Island, New York.
The son of a chiropractor, Dr. Salob was impressed at a young age at the power of direct hands-on care in caring for patients. The use of the hands to palpate disease and offer treatment to restore the body’s health was a fundamental decision to pursue being an osteopathic physician (D.O.).
He graduated from the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine at the New York Institute of Technology in 2002. While attending, he engaged in a one-year Undergraduate Teaching Fellowship in Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine. He completed his Family Practice and Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment residency at Peninsula Hospital Center in Far Rockaway, where he also served as chief resident.
Initially providing office-based family practice care, an opportunity led him to provide house calls to homebound patients. This experience provided insight into the care of the elderly population while focusing on improving one’s quality of life. He has also cared for subacute rehab and long-term residents of multiple nursing homes.
Embracing the osteopathic philosophy, Dr.Salob applies traditional medicine with Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT). OMT is a set of hands-on techniques used by osteopathic physicians to diagnose, treat, and prevent illness or injury. OMT can be used to ease pain, promote healing, and increase overall mobility. He practices medicine with the philosophy of treating the whole person. Common things that are treated with OMT include back pain, headaches, joint pain, sinus problems, and carpal tunnel syndrome. Along with medication, physical therapy, activity, diet, weight loss, stretching, and other modalities (like trigger point injections), OMT can help people’s bodies function at their highest potential. When OMT is used in conjunction with other treatments such as those above, as well as acupuncture and massage, it can help decrease the severity, duration, and frequency of symptoms, as well as levels of patient discomfort. It can also help some patients with chronic pain conditions decrease their need for pain medication.
Dr. Salob is board-certified by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) in Family Medicine and Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment. He is a member of several professional organizations, including the AOA, in addition to being a Fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians.
As an osteopath, Dr. Salob is passionate about improving the quality of life of patients while helping the body restore its inherent capacity to heal and maintain its functional capability. He abides by this wisdom attributed to osteopathic physician A.T. Stills: “To find health should be the object of the doctor. Anyone can find disease.”
Having treated patients of all ages, Dr. Salob emphasizes a comprehensive and individualized approach to the care of the patient. His experiences have fostered a holistic approach to caring for a patient, not just treating a set of symptoms or chief complaints.
