About Dr. Michael Lacey, DPM
Board-certified foot surgeon Michael Lacey, DPM, believes communication is a key component to developing strong patient-provider relationships. For Dr. Lacey, spending time with his patients to address questions and concerns is essential to building trust and treating the whole person. He brings his passion for podiatry and this patient-centered approach to the Center for Podiatric Medicine, four convenient Illinois locations in the River North neighborhood of Chicago, Schaumburg, and Elmhurst, along with one other location in Highland, Indiana.
Though he always wanted to practice medicine, his career took a permanent detour during his undergraduate studies at Fairfield University in Connecticut when his father, a diabetic, nearly had his leg amputated after stepping on a nail at a construction site. Watching the podiatrist save his father’s leg inspired him to switch from pediatrics to podiatry as his chosen field. Dr. Lacey graduated from the New York College of Podiatric Medicine, then went on to complete a three-year residency program at St. Barnabas Hospital in the Bronx, where he served as chief podiatry resident. His father’s fateful accident again influenced his postdoctoral training, as diabetic foot care and limb salvage became a focus area during his residency.
Dr. Lacey sees patients at the Center for Podiatric Medicine’s Schaumburg, Illinois, and Highland, Indiana, offices. When he isn’t practicing medicine, the Boston native enjoys cheering on the Red Sox and the New England Patriots, and spending time with his Wheaten Terrier, Swiffer.
