About Dr. Nicole Scripsema, MD
Nicole K. Scripsema, MD is a board-certified ophthalmologist specializing in vitreoretinal surgery and uveitis. She received her undergraduate degrees in Neuroscience, Biochemistry, and Italian from the University of Michigan and completed medical school at New York Medical College. She then attended New York Eye and Ear Infirmary and completed her residency in ophthalmology. Dr. Scripsema furthered her training internationally at Moorfield’s Eye Hospital in London specializing in pediatric and adult uveitis, *inherited *retinal diseases, and other medical retinal conditions. Returning back to the states, Dr. Scripsema completed an additional fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery at the Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary at the University of Illinois Chicago.
Dr. Scripsema is actively involved in retinal imaging and clinical research, presenting her work at national and international meetings and has been published in over 10 scientific journals. She is also very passionate about education and volunteers her time to the Lions Eye Clinic offering free care to reduce the risk of blindness in her community.
Dr. Scripsema is very active and enjoys cycling, swimming, and exploring Hampton Roads.

Dr. Scripsema was willing to engage in dialogue beyond that necessary for the completion of the procedure (eye injection), but important to my care and concerns.

The staff is always so welcoming nice and friendly. They are very professional and you get ready for the dr really fast. Dr. Scripsema is wonderful. She has the best bedside manner, she is knowledgable, and very friendly. I have seen all of the doctors and would recommend any one of them.
Dr. S rip arms is always informative, filled.with happiness, which makes a visit with enjoyable. Plus I have yet to wait an extensive amount of time past my appointment
Insanely compassionate doctor. Shows empathy and understanding but all of the doctors there do. I have seen all the doctors in the practice and collectively it’s the dream team. Each physician brings a uniqueness to patient care. The practice would benefit from a patient advocate to help their visually challenged patients navigate disability and services available.

Doctor Scripsema is absolutely awesome. When dealing with serious health problems, she explains what is happening and the procedures required to correct the situation. Her attitude and caring nature made me less apprehensive about what was happening to my retina and conducted surgeries returning my sight. I can't thank her enough.
