About Dr. Ram Peddada, MD, DSc

Dr. Peddada is an experienced board-certified ophthalmologist and fellowship trained retina specialist. In addition, he also has a doctorate in engineering and biomechanics which gives Dr. Peddada an added dimension of understanding the treatment of retinal diseases. These include surgical conditions such as retinal detachment and macular hole, and medical retinal conditions such as leakage and bleeding due to age-related macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy.

After years of successful solo practice that he founded in Wyoming and moving to a large group practice in the warm South Alabama, Dr. Peddada returned to a solo retina practice, Retina of Auburn & Metro-Columbus in Auburn/Opelika, AL and Columbus, GA that he established in 2016. Now, besides operating at Piedmont Midtown in Columbus, GA, Dr. Peddada is the first and only retina specialist operating at EAMC-Lanier Ambulatory Surgery Center in Valley, Alabama.

His academic honors and accomplishments include a doctorate in engineering at Washington University in St. Louis, serving on the engineering faculty at University of Maryland, and publishing research and obtaining a patent for improving flexibility and flow of red blood cells using aspirin analogues. The latter work inspired Dr. Peddada to go to medical school. While he attended the University of Maryland School of Medicine he was awarded an NIH Summer Fellowship, the Best Overall Clinical Research award at the ESRF international meeting and the award for outstanding graduating senior in ophthalmology.

Dr. Peddada completed his ophthalmology residency at University of South Carolina where he received the award for best clinical research. Dr. Peddada completed his medical and surgical retina fellowship at Northwestern University in Chicago where he received a research grant to study age-related macular degeneration and was invited to present his research in Sydney, Australia. Dr. Peddada was also recognized in 2011 by American Academy of Ophthalmology for volunteer services as a counselor for the State of Wyoming.
