I went in for my 6 week post-op follow-up and as always, was met by his nurse who is extremely polite and very personable. She took me to a room and took the time to explain what was going on and asked as always if there was any cShow moreoncerns I may have. She then told me to make sure that I pass these concerns on to Dr. Childers. He came in and was very pleasant and set down and ask if there was anything going on. Dr. Childers takes the time to listen to your concerns and then will explain your options. Once the exam was over he again made sure that I was completely satisfied and then it was over. I would without a doubt recommend Dr. Childers and his staff to anyone who may need a look at your ankle or foot.
I started going to to Dr Childers months ago for foot pain. The exercises he gave me relieved pain and built strength in my feet. I believe this prevented much damage when I twisted my foot in a fall three weeks ago. I was able toShow more see him just a few days after he received my request. His office has the most up to date radiology to detect stress fractures and small breaks which allowed me to get practical and immediate treatment. Also the staff in this office is helpful and caring. We are fortunate to have this office in Decatur.
About Ricky Childers, DPM
Ricky Childers, DPM, is a board-certified foot and ankle surgeon who founded North Central Texas Foot & Ankle, with two locations in Decatur and Roanoke, Texas, in 2014.
Dr. Childers was born and raised in West Virginia. He enlisted in the United States Navy after high school, where his initial interest in the foot and ankle occurred after fracturing his ankle participating in a special forces unit in Airborne School. Dr. Childers went on to serve in the Gulf War and is now a proud veteran and was an officer in the Navy Reserves, serving 16 years.
While in the Navy Reserves, Dr. Childers earned a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences completed at the University of Nevada, Reno. He then went on to attend the California College of Podiatric Medicine in San Francisco, California, where he was awarded Outstanding Student in Podiatric Surgery from his class. Dr. Childers remained in San Francisco to complete a three-year surgical residency program at St. Mary’s Hospital.
He also completed a fellowship in Redwood City with San Francisco professional sports teams. In addition to this fellowship, he completed two more in Kurgan, Russia (external fixation), and Lugano, Switzerland. After completing his training in 2006, Dr. Childers accepted a position at a large multi-specialty group in Sacramento, California.
He is also a member of the Association of Extremity Nerve Surgeons. He performs all types of nerve surgery to the lower extremity, such as for entrapped nerves, injured nerves, and neuropathy. To become a member, you must have been invited and completed the nerve course as well as perform a number of nerve-related cases. This would be of interest especially to anyone who has peripheral neuropathy, including diabetics.
Dr. Childers and his wife, Dr. Samantha Childers, eventually moved to Texas, and have since found a love for volunteer work. They volunteer with an organization called Love for the Least, which they support financially and through mission trips, providing medical care for the people in Kurdistan ISIS effects and the subsequent wars in the area.
Outside of North Central Texas Foot & Ankle, Dr. Childers enjoys being with his family, golfing, backcountry skiing, cycling, hunting, and fishing.

Dr. Childers, Is very straight forward, to the point, and through explaining at my level of understanding. I am confident in him to deliver the outcome of treatment.
Due to severe traffic issues I was late for my initial visit with Dr. Childers - however he and his staff went out of their way to work me into their tight schedule as he was scheduled for surgery commitments later. He is professional in every way - so is his staff.

Having delt with the VA for years, Dr Childers and his staff are a breath of fresh air. Dr. Childers recently preformed surgery on my foot and ankle and he and his staff are the epitome of professional. I would give his entire practice 10 stars. He is a good Christian family man, a veteran and a role model for what a dr should be.
