About Dr. Stephen Frania, DPM
Dr. Frania is board certified foot and ankle surgeon who practices at the Foot & Ankle Specialists of Ohio in Mentor and Westlake. He has been treating foot and ankle disorders for 25+ years. Dr. Frania is also the fellowship director of the prestigious Foot & Ankle Specialists of Ohio Reconstructive Surgery and Deformity Correction Fellowship. He has utilized the fellowship to spread his knowledge and experience to young surgeons for the last 10 years. Surgeons trained by Dr. Frania now serve as an extension of his skillset and to help patients throughout the nation.
He obtained his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree in 1993 from Kent State University of Podiatric Medicine. He then completed his residency in St. Francis Medical Center in Hartford, CT. He is board certified by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery in foot surgery, reconstructive rearfoot surgery, and ankle surgery.
Dr. Frania is also a member of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons. He is a founding board member of the American Microsurgical and Orthoplastic Society (AMOS). He has collaborated together with AMOS colleagues to help develop some of the latest techniques and protocols for peripheral nerve surgery, muscle flaps, and deformity correction.
Dr. Frania takes pride in his ability to forge lasting doctor-patient relationships. Not only does he provide his patients with the best in medical care, but he makes sure to address all of their questions and keep them informed every step of the way.

They were very understanding and helpful with what I’ve been dealing with about my pain in my right foot.
They were absolutely kind and caring, and within a single visit helped my daughter feel better about the outlook of her foot problem! Everyone on the staff here was absolutely wonderful!

Dr. Frania is a competent and caring doctor! He had the task of cleaning up another surgeon’s mess and did it with total professionalism. I am only sorry I did not find him first. I highly recommend Dr. Frania to anyone experiencing foot/ankle issues. The care I’m currently receiving is the best! Being reassured so kindly with each visit makes him a truly special physician!! I can’t wait to be back up on both feet thanks to him. I highly recommend him!!!!!!
