Since 1999, he’s been treating patients at Respiratory, Critical Care, and Sleep Specialists, which has three offices conveniently located in Des Plaines, Oak Park, and Chicago’s Portage Park in Illinois.
Dr. Ahluwalia earned his medical degree from the University College of Medical Sciences at the University of Delhi in New Delhi, India. He stayed in New Delhi for his internship, which he completed at the Safdarjung Hospital, but then relocated to Chicago for his internal medicine residency, which he completed at Grant Hospital of Chicago and Rush Presbyterian St. Luke’s Hospital, now known as Rush University Medical Center. Before finishing, his program awarded him with a certificate of outstanding teaching to the house staff of medical students.
Dr. Ahluwalia finished his post-graduate training in New York, with a fellowship in pulmonary medicine at Long Island College Hospital in Brooklyn and a fellowship in critical care medicine at the University of Rochester’s Strong Memorial Hospital.
Dr. Ahluwalia is highly skilled in his specialties, and he maintains board-certification in internal medicine, pulmonary medicine, critical care medicine, and sleep medicine. He’s a member of the American College of Chest Physicians, the American Thoracic Society, and the Society of Critical Care Medicine, and his work has been published in the Journal of Bronchology.
Dr. Ahluwalia is skilled in performing all invasive procedures in the fields of pulmonary medicine, sleep medicine, and critical care, and he looks forward to utilizing those abilities to help his patients be as healthy and happy as possible.

Dr. Khanna earned her undergraduate degree in Neurobiology with minors in Spanish and Economics at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts. She attended the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health for medical school. She completed her ophthalmology residency at the University of Chicago and continued her medical training in vitreoretinal surgery, completing her fellowship at The Retina Institute in St. Louis, MO. Dr. Khanna's areas of expertise include diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, retinal vascular diseases, macular holes, epiretinal membranes, uveitis, and other retinal pathologies. In her free time, Dr. Khanna enjoys playing tennis/pickleball, eating at new restaurants, and traveling.

Dr. Firas Zakaria is an internal medicine specialist with offices in Palos Heights, Illinois. He received his medical degree from the prestigious Damascus University School of Medicine. He completed a residency program in pathology at the University of Damascus and a second residency in internal medicine at Chicago’s Mercy Hospital and Medical Center.
As a primary care physician, Dr. Zakaria is skilled in supervising all facets of his patients’ health. He’s well known for his longer than average appointment times, which allow him the opportunity to truly understand the needs and concerns of his patients. Rather than simply writing a prescription for high-risk medications such as narcotics or sedatives for symptom management, Dr. Zakaria is dedicated to discovering and resolving the underlying issues causing those symptoms.
