He is a native of the Washington, DC, metro area. He graduated cum laude from George Mason University with a Bachelor of Science in biology and a minor in chemistry. He graduated with honors and obtained a doctorate degree in medicine from Ross University School of Medicine in Miami, Florida, in 2009. Afterward, he completed his internship training at Mount Sinai School of Medicine and his residency training at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York in 2014.
Dr. Varma has nearly a decade of experience working in acute care, primary care, and skilled nursing facilities as a hospitalist/internist in the states of New York and Virginia. His focus of research has been chronic Hepatitis B and inflammatory bowel disease. Dr. Varma has co-authored a case report published in Chest Journal on Dengue Shock Syndrome in 2015.

Veronica Kwegyir-Afful DNP, APRN, PMHNP-BC, FNP-BC, is a highly experienced board-certified family and psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner with over 20 years of experience in family medicine, military/veteran health, and psychiatric medication management, including substance use disorders. She sees patients at KAVN Health, located in Columbia, Maryland.
