About Dr. Hiner

Dr. Hiner received his M.D. cum laude from the Ohio State University College of Medicine in 1982, having completed the usual 4 years in 3 years in an accelerated scholars program. He was inducted into the medical honor society, Alpha Omega Alpha by his second year. He completed Neurology training at Stanford University, chosen Administrative Chief Resident by the faculty his senior year. After a year of basic neurosciences fellowship he embarked on a career in clinical medicine and research, establishing one of the largest programs for Parkinson’s disease and other Movement disorders first at the Marshfield Clinic and then at the Medical College of Wisconsin. As full professor he developed one of the largest and most active programs specializing in advanced treatments including Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS), where he served as Neurologic Director. He has over 40 research publications in the field, and has participated in over 800 DBS surgeries performing intraoperative microelectrode recording (for precise targeting) and post-op DBS programming.

Dr. Hiner and his wife are proud grandparents of 4 wonderful girls, and relocated to Southern California to stay close to family. At the same time, he is excited to be in clinical practice with Link Integrated Healthcare developing a Parkinson’s disease and Movement Disorders program offering the most advanced care including  DBS for these conditions.

When not practicing medicine, Dr. Hiner enjoys golf and playing classical guitar.

About Dr. Lan

Dr. Lan specializes in headache medicine including migraine as well as other primary and secondary headaches and facial pain disorders, Botox injections, and occipital nerve blocks and incorporates non-pharmacologic treatment options into her overall approach.

Dr. Lan earned her DO degree from the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine in Illinois in 2017. She then completed her Neurology residency at Loma Linda University in Loma Linda, California and received Headache Fellowship training at USC’s Keck School of Medicine in Los Angeles.

Dr. Lan was born and raised in Southern California and is excited to practice where she can raise her young children close to family. She enjoys hiking and trying new recipes.

 

Charles E. Niesen, MD, is a pediatric neurologist leading a team of experienced providers at AMS Neurology in Pasadena, California, and throughout the Los Angeles area. 

 

Dr. Niesen was born in Poughkeepsie, New York. He received his undergraduate degree from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, and his medical degree from the Sackler School of Medicine, Tel Aviv University in Israel. 

 

He completed his pediatric training at Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital, affiliated with Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio. He also completed his child neurology fellowship at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada. Dr. Niesen spent two years doing post-graduate research in neurophysiology at the University of Toronto.

 

His first faculty position was with the Children's Hospital Los Angeles. As an assistant professorship of pediatrics and neurology, he set up an NIH-sponsored electrophysiology lab to study epilepsy in the developing brain. After five years, he moved to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, where he was an associate professor of pediatrics and director of the Division of Child Neurology. 

 

Dr. Niesen is board-certified in child neurology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and the Medical Research Council of Canada.

 

He is a specialist in childhood epilepsy and neurodevelopmental disorders of the brain and has published over twenty peer-reviewed articles on epilepsy and drug effects on the developing brain. 

 

Dr. Niesen is a member of the American Epilepsy Society, the Child Neurology Society, the American Academy of Neurology, and the Society for Neuroscience. He is also the co-founder of the Pasadena Neurodevelopment Group. 

 

Dr. Niesen resides in Pasadena, California, with his wife and two daughters.

Alireza Bozorgi, MD, is a board-certified neurologist and interventional pain management physician who also specializes in epilepsy and pain management. He sees patients at Minimally Invasive Medical Group, which has offices in Lake Forest, Mission Viejo, and Irvine, California. 

He received his medical degree from Tehran, Iran. He completed a neurology residency at Tehran University. He then completed another neurology residency at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. He obtained a subspecialty in Epilepsy in Cleveland. He worked for two years at Mercy Hospital in Youngstown, Ohio. Then, he completed a year of fellowship in pain management in Cleveland. Then, he moved to Detroit, Michigan, where he practiced for a year. He then moved to California and started to practice at Minimally Invasive Medical Group. 

Dr. Bozorgi has a wealth of research experience and has published extensively. He is a member of several professional associations, including the American Board of Neurology and Psychiatry.

Dr. Nita Chen is a neurologist who specializes in movement disorders. Dr. Chen received her medical degree from Albany Medical College in 2017. She then completed a neurology residency at UC Irvine (2021) and a movement disorders fellowship at the University of Florida (2023). Throughout her training, she has developed a special interest in Parkinson’s Disease, Dystonia, and Deep Brain Stimulation. What she loves most about these areas is how treatment and technology meet to provide an individualized plan. Dr. Chen uses her love of art to connect science with humanism and is known to use illustrations to demonstrate concepts of disease and treatment. Outside of the role of neurologist, she enjoys gardening, making ceramics, and exploring local crafting festivities. In another life without being plagued by sea sickness, she would be a marine biologist. For now, she’ll settle for her cat (Glia) who is reportedly known to act like a shark at times, or a puffer fish.
