More than a doctor’s office, Dr. Georgeanne Freeman runs a family medicine wellness clinic, Downtown Doctor, centrally located in Austin for those who live, work, or play in the downtown area.
Texas born and bred, Dr. Freeman grew up in Houston. Growing up in Houston gave Dr. Freeman the opportunity to become a passionate surfer. She was able to surf the Freeport pier, Galveston beach during storms and various Mexico beaches. It may surprise you to know that you can surf a 2-3 foot wave. Dr. Freeman explains that in Texas, surfers use styrofoam boards when the waves are flat. The longer the board, the easier it is to catch small waves.
After Houston, she spent a number of years living and practicing medicine in rural America - namely in the Appalachian Mountains and the Ozark Mountains. Her love of Austin began during high school when she spent a summer session at St. Stephen’s Episcopal School. Over the ensuing years she visited friends and family in the area, falling deeper and deeper in love with Central Texas.
On her way back to Texas, Dr. Freeman made stopovers in Portland, OR to complete her undergraduate degree; in Johnson City, TN where she completed a Master of Public Health degree at East Tennessee State University; in Des Moines, IA to complete her Doctorate in Osteopathy at the University of Osteopathic Medicine & Health Sciences (now Des Moines University); in Kingsport TN for a rotating internship; and then finished up her residency training at the University of Washington in Seattle.
There is often confusion when differentiating between a physician with a medical degree (MD) and a physician with a doctorate in osteopathic medicine (DO). MDs and DOs are similarly educated and certified, but there are differences in their training and philosophy of patient care. You will find that most MDs practice allopathic medicine, a more traditional medicine based on diagnosis and treatment of specific diseases where a DO approaches the “whole person” to reach a diagnosis rather than treating symptoms. In addition, DOs are trained in osteopathic manipulation treatment (OMT), the therapeutic application of manual techniques to address the changes in body structure to improve physiologic function. As a DO, Dr. Freeman believes in tapping into the innate healing properties we all have by using internal and external methods of healing.
Board certified in family medicine, Dr. Freeman has worked in emergency rooms, hospitals, and clinics. She is also trained in bio-identical hormones and botox and juvederm cosmetic procedures. As a country doctor, she learned a lot about medicine and made house calls. A favorite memory is delivering flu shots on horseback with insulated saddlebags to an elderly couple who lived nearby.
Also an avid swimmer and skier, you can also find Dr. Freeman biking to and from the clinic.
Now in its 11th year, Freeman Medical Clinic offers a full-spectrum of care. You can find services from ADHD evaluation and treatment to well-women and well-men exams. In addition, the clinic provides walk-in urgent care and even makes house calls. A particularly popular treatment is IV hydration (www.hippohydrate.com) - a custom mix of vitamins, electrolytes, and medication along with IV fluids for migraine headaches, athletes and those seeking optimal health.
“Going to see Dr. Freeman feels like going to hangout with a best girl friend. Non-judgmental, approachable, so easy to talk to, and genuinely makes you feel like she’s happy to see you! I highly recommend her and her team for any service. The best!”

Karen Hoyt, MPT
Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine Physician
Through active listening and thoughtful questioning I am able to bring you a very interdisciplinary approach to your wellness needs. I have always been active (youth soccer, high school, college sports) and all of those years of "pounding the pavement" literally paved my way for the appreciation and beauty of movement. It was an easy pick to study Sports Medicine/Athletic Training for my undergrad degree at San Diego State University, and then my Masters in Physical Therapyat Old Dominion. I have also completed my Postural Restoration studies and am Certified in this approach to healing, pain management and movement. I truly enjoy working with people and my brain seems to never stop going as I study you, watch you move, and together with you, work through your healing process and wellness path. Very grateful to be in this profession. We all have to keep on moving!
“Karen is wonderful and the best in her field. She deeply cares about her patients and her knowledge of the newest ways to help me is what I appreciate the most. I’ve never had a therapist that has helped me so much and I have had this issue with my neck for at least 10 years.”

Michael Rieber, MD, is a skilled orthopedic surgeon who offers conservative and minimally invasive care for patients at Orthopedics Unlimited in Livingston, New Jersey. Dr. Rieber always tries to find alternative treatments to surgery. When surgery is needed, he is proud to provide state-of-the-art arthroscopy and robotic surgery.
Dr. Rieber earned his medical degree from New York Medical College in Valhalla, New York. He went on to pursue further training through an orthopedic surgery residency at Albany Medical Center in Upstate New York. Dr. Rieber completed his sports medicine fellowship at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center in Hershey, Pennsylvania.
In the early 2000s, Dr. Rieber realized there was a need for more surgical joint replacement treatments as he observed patients struggling to recover from broken hips. This insight led him to develop an institute that improves the overall experience of those who need a total joint replacement in the hospital. The changes recognized include pre-operative planning, better nurse-patient ratios, and a customized recovery experience.
Another patient-focused solution Dr. Rieber volunteered to implement was pioneering the breakthrough anesthetic drug Exparel during knee surgeries. The pain medication numbs the area where it was administered for up to three days, providing more comfort to the patient post-surgery. Dr. Rieber's patients claimed that their life had improved only a week after surgery because of greater mobility.
