He served his internship at Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke's Medical Center in Chicago, before continuing his training with a diagnostic radiology residency at Tulane University Medical Center in New Orleans. 

Dr. Frei went on to complete rigorous fellowship training in neuroradiology / endovascular surgical neuroradiology at Washington University's Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology in St. Louis.
