Dr. Alvina Lim is a fourth generation dentist. Born in California and raised in Indonesia, she was exposed to a variety of cultures at an early age. She obtained her undergraduate degree from Southern Adventist University in Tennessee and her dental degree from Loma Linda University in California.
After graduating from a general practice residency at Mount Sinai Hospital, she worked in New York for two years as a general practitioner. This is where her passion for pediatric dental care developed. She pursued additional specialized training in pediatric dentistry at Mount Sinai Hospital where she served as Chief Resident. In 1977, Dr. Gainor graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in biology from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. He received his Doctor of Dental Medicine from the University Of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine in 1981. He then completed a postgraduate general practice residency in dentistry at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York, in 1982.
Dr. Gainor is strongly committed to continuing education. He has completed the prestigious Pankey Institute restorative and Spear Institute mastery continuum. He also took advanced coursework at the Dawson Academy in St. Petersburg, Florida, and the Strupp Postgraduate School of Dentistry.
In 1987 Dr. Gainor became a fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry. This recognition represents over 500 hours of post-doctoral education and successful completion of a written exam given by the Academy.
In 2006, he was awarded the title of Master of the Academy of General Dentistry, the highest distinction conferred by the Academy. Less than 2% of all dentists nationwide have achieved this honor. Dr. Gainor has completed over 2400 hours of continuing education since completing his residency.
Dr. Gainor is very involved in organized dentistry and loves teaching. He has presented numerous educational programs on occlusion (bite), TMJ dysfunction, and orthodontics to his colleagues at local dental societies.
He is currently the general chairman of the Greater New York Dental Meeting, the largest Dental Convention/Exposition in the United States. Dr. Gainor was recently honored with the Academy of General Dentistry Lifelong Learning and Service Recognition award.
