Dr. Hussain was born in Los Angeles, California, and grew up in Baghdad, Iraq. She received her medical degree from the University of Sulaimani School of Medicine in Sulaimani, Iraq. She completed her internal medicine residency at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan, and her gastroenterology fellowship at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina.
