Dr. Carpenter received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine, and his Doctor of Medicine degree from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. He completed his neurosurgical residency at Columbia University under the mentorship of Dr. Bennett Stein. He has been in practice at North Jersey Neurosurgical Associates in Ridgewood, New Jersey, since 1984.
Dr. Carpenter has performed over 10,000 neurosurgical operations, including 200 intracerebral aneurysm clippings, 600 carotid endarterectomies, and 5,000 spine surgeries. Dr. Carpenter’s practice is currently focused on the treatment of the spine. Dr. Carpenter treats degenerative conditions of the spine, neck and lower back pain, sciatica, herniated discs, spinal stenosis, spondylolisthesis, spine fractures, and spine tumors.

Dr. Carpenter has lived in Saddle River, New Jersey, for over 25 years and remains active in the local community, having served on the health commission and as a councilman for the Borough of Saddle River. Outside of work, Dr. Carpenter enjoys cooking, golf, and travel.
