After completing his medical degree, he undertook a general surgery residency at the National Institute for Cardiovascular Diseases at the University Hospital in Bratislava. Dr. Slezak also underwent specialized training in cardiac and vascular surgery and is a board-certified surgeon in the Slovak Republic.
When Dr. Slezak moved to the United States, he continued his training with an internship and residency in anesthesia at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan. In 1997, Dr. Slezak completed a fellowship in pain management at Massachusetts General Hospital, part of Harvard Medical School, in Boston. He joined the staff of Massachusetts General Hospital’s Pain Center, where he spent many years as a consultant. During this time, Dr. Slezak also began seeing patients at Interventional Spine Medicine.
Dr. Slezak holds board certifications in pain management and anesthesiology. He’s a graduate of the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) medical acupuncture program and was the medical director and principal investigator for the Northeast Pain Research Center in Barrington, New Hampshire. Dr. Slezak has had numerous peer-reviewed articles published in respected medical journals covering subjects such as heart research, molecular biology, and pain medicine.
