Shawn Morton is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Supervisor who received both his bachelor's degree in Psychology and master’s degree in Counselor Education from the University of Mississippi. During that time, he worked and trained at UM's Counseling Center and the Oxford Play Therapy Training Institute. Shawn has now been a licensed therapist for over 15 years and is also a Registered Play Therapist Supervisor(RPT-S). Shawn is an active member of the Association for Play Therapy and has served on the Board of Directors of the NC Association for Play Therapy.​ Shawn previously served as Clinical Director for an inpatient psychiatric hospital providing individual, group, and family therapy to children ages 6-21 a variety of severe issues and diagnoses. He was then part of a private counseling practice for ten years in Hampstead, North Carolina, working primarily with children, parents, and families from all backgrounds including extensive work with military families.

I began my career in the addiction field managing a non-profit treatment center in Seattle, Washington, the area I was born and raised. I chose the field due to being a recovering alcoholic that knows what it feels like to be stuck in the depths of addiction and knew that helping others is the path to freedom. I moved to North Carolina in the spring of 2012, became a substance abuse counselor and continued working with those with addiction in recovery housing, IOP programs and residential treatment. I found myself in the business development field and feel like I have found my true calling being able to continue having personal and professional insight as a recovering person and clinician yet getting the opportunity every day to speak with people in need, their families and other’s in the field of addiction that need support to best help those in need.
