Steve Rogers is a licensed Clinical Psychologist and Neuropsychologist who has been working in the mental health profession for over 20 years. He has provided individual psychotherapy in private practice for several years, conducted individual and group therapy in day treatment centers for individuals with severe mental illness (i.e., schizophrenia and bipolar disorders), and worked at two Veterans Affairs Systems, where he gained experience treating trauma, addictions, women's issues, and mood-related difficulties.

Steve also provides neuropsychological assessments and psychological evaluations. This includes testing for individuals with academic, neurological, and psychiatric disorders, as well as psychodiagnostic and personality assessment.

In addition to working at Hope, Steve serves as a Professor of Psychology at Westmont College, where he teaches courses in therapy, abnormal psychology, clinical neuropsychology, and personality. Moreover, he serves as a Staff Neuropsychologist at the Link Neuroscience Institute in Oxnard, CA. He has published over 25 journal articles in clinical psychology and neuropsychology, written over 10 book chapters on therapy and spirituality, annually presents at the American Psychological Association and International Neuropsychology conventions, and published a coauthored book entitled, “The Estrogen-Depression Connection: The Hidden Link Between Hormones and Women’s Depression.”

He has over 40 research publications in the field, and has participated in over 800 DBS surgeries performing intraoperative microelectrode recording (for precise targeting) and post-op DBS programming.

Dr. Hiner and his wife are proud grandparents of 4 wonderful girls, and relocated to Southern California to stay close to family. At the same time, he is excited to be in clinical practice with Link Neurosciences, developing a Parkinson’s disease and Movement Disorders program offering the most advanced care including  DBS

for these conditions.

In 1988, he earned an honors degree in medical biochemistry at the University of Cape Town. Between 1988 and 1991, he obtained a D.Phil in neuroimmunology at Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar. He was College Lecturer in Immunology at Christ Church 1989-92. He was Yamanouchi Junior Research Fellow in Cell Biology at Wolfson 1991-2. Junior Research Fellowships are awarded to the top 2% of graduates at Oxford University. Between 1992 and 1997, he completed an internal medicine internship and then neurology residency at the University of California, San Francisco where he also served as Chief Resident. He has completed fellowships in multiple sclerosis at UCSF and in neuromuscular disease at Stanford University.
