My educational background includes an M.A. in Counseling for Mental Health and Wellness from New York University and a B.A. in Psychology from the University of South Carolina.

Our beliefs and assumptions about ourselves and the world inform our feelings, which in turn, influences our behavior. However, many of those assumptions are not entirely our own, or even within our conscious awareness. Such invisible beliefs come from our families, our communities, challenging or traumatic experiences, and most often a less developed version of ourself. Living a life that does not reflect our values as a unique individual with a singular world-experience often results in an inner-conflict that can spill outward and negatively impact our the people and systems we interact with.

My psychotherapeutic approach is rooted in Psychodynamic, Attachment, and Systems theory, which looks at the ways our environments, at all stages of our development, have influenced and transformed our understanding of others and self. I practice EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and Internal Family Systems (IFS), along with cognitive and humanistic perspectives in an eclectic/integrative approach to facilitate these explorations of self. EMDR is one of the most extensively researched and respected interventions for trauma and PTSD.

I hold a Master's in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and a Clinical Certification in Trauma Treatment from Antioch University New England. My clinical residency focused on PTSD, Complex PTSD (C-PTSD) and severe attachment injury. I have advanced training in EMDR and IFS. I also work with depression, anxiety, disordered eating, substance use, dual diagnosis, LGBTQ+ experiences, codependency, Couples and Marriage, Polyamory & ENM, grief and loss, and major life transitions.

It is my belief that every person, from all walks of life, has their own struggles with mental health. Therapy can be utilized to help us become more self-aware and as a result be more self-sufficient. I take a psychodynamic approach in which I work with you to dive deep into the psychological roots of your emotional processes. In other words, I help you develop a deeper understanding of your emotional and mental well-being. 

I am a licensed mental health counselor in the state of New York, fluent in English and Arabic. I earned a bachelor's degree in Psychology from Hofstra University, and soon after went on to earn a master's degree in Mental Health Counseling at SUNY College of Old Westbury. I had the opportunity to complete a clinical internship at Rikers Island working with the incarcerated population. Working with such a complex and diverse population not only allowed me to learn the true value of therapy but, that therapy truly works best when customized to the needs of the individual.

I aim to work with clients with the goal of creating an individualized treatment plan that helps to focus and improve on the areas of their life that may be lacking or in disarray. I have extensive experience working with patients experiencing anxiety, depression, personality disorders, mood disorders, as well as trauma and issues surrounding culture/diversity.

I am here to serve as an understanding, empathic, and non-judgmental support system as we navigate through the initial concerns that brought you to therapy. My therapeutic approach is person-centered, which allows me to provide a safe environment where you are free to share and speak about anything that you feel is important to address. Think of our time as a road trip to self-discovery, where you are the driver, and I am in the passenger’s seat with a map. You may lead us wherever you’d like but every so often, I will stop to make sure we take in the scenery and appreciate each moment our journey has to offer.   My journey into the field of counseling began at Queens College, City University of New York, where I obtained a bachelor’s degree in Psychology. I then continued my educational career at Minnesota’s Walden University, where I majored and obtained a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I have held previous positions that have allowed me to develop a deeper understanding of human behavior and its connection to the human mind.
