I want to start by saying I am honored and excited about the opportunity to serve you or your family’s needs. I have been married since May of 1992 and in our marriage, my wife and I are blessed with three children. In 2016, I completed a 20 year Full-Time career in the U.S. Army where I have many of my own experiences concerning trauma, family hardships, deployments, separation, reintegration, and a global-cultural view of over 20 countries. My practice revolves around Systems Theory, Family Therapy, and Person Centered Therapy. All of which I am able to integrate in to a Biblical counseling process. I have been serving clients globally since June 2015 and have extensive experience with relationship development/therapy, PTSD of veterans and civilians, parenting/co-parenting, trauma, loss/grief, addictions, anxiety, depression, men’s issues, and many others. I base my therapy techniques on Inter-Generational aspects, Emotional Focus Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment models.
At Family Matters Counseling Center, LLC we strive to work with individuals, couples, and families on topics that sometime may hold us back from reaching our life and relationship goals. Our mission is to provide holistic counseling and personable services to support our diverse client population in achieving their highest potential.
I work with individuals, couples, and families who want to better understand themselves and improve their relationships. Many of my clients are dealing with anxiety, stress, relationship challenges, or feeling overwhelmed and stuck in patterns they can’t change on their own.
I help couples improve communication, rebuild trust, and work through conflict. I also support individuals who want to feel more grounded, confident, and connected to themselves.
My approach is thoughtful and collaborative. We take time to understand what’s going on beneath the surface and develop new ways of responding that feel more supportive and sustainable.
Therapy offers a space to slow down, gain clarity, and build healthier relationships with yourself and others.
With 20 years in the behavioral health field, I’ve learned that positive outcomes start with a simple, powerful connection. My journey has taken me from the front lines of day treatment facilities to systemic work with the Indiana Department of Child Services, ultimately leading me to establish Torres Behavioral Health.
I believe therapy should be as unique as the individual. By blending clinical expertise with a collaborative, caring approach, I help my clients navigate life’s challenges through individual, marriage, and group therapy. I’m also passionate about meeting clients where they are—whether that’s through traditional behavioral consulting or utilizing creative tools like therapeutically applied role-playing games. I am currently accepting new clients and look forward to seeing how we can work together.
Hi, I am Vanessa. I work with couples and families to strengthen connections, improve communication, and navigate life’s challenges together. My approach is trauma-informed, compassionate, and collaborative, creating a safe space where healing and growth can take place. Before becoming a therapist, I spent nearly a decade as a 9-1-1 Communications Dispatcher, supporting people through some of their most critical moments. That experience taught me to remain calm, empathetic, and present—qualities I now bring into my work with clients. I’m currently completing my Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy at Capella University and hold a Bachelor’s degree in Health Science. As a Bay Area native shaped by my Latinx heritage and my family’s immigrant journey, I value inclusivity, cultural awareness, and connection. I am also bilingual in Spanish, which allows me to support clients in the language where they feel most comfortable.
“My wife and I just started sessions with Vanessa so it's a bit early to fully review. However, she has been a welcome support and guide thus far. We appreciate her objectivity and insight. ”
Hi, I am Rachel. I work with couples and families to strengthen relationships, improve communication, and create lasting change. I believe therapy should feel supportive and judgment-free, while also being honest and practical. My goal is to help you get to the root of challenges and build healthier, more connected relationships.
I use evidence-based approaches, including the Gottman Method, to guide partners and families in resolving conflict, rebuilding trust, and deepening connection. Together, we’ll create a safe space where growth feels possible and progress feels real.
“Rachel was very professional while being warm and approachable with the kids. I appreciate the due diligence by contacting the individual providers already working with the kids. Also working with our availability and being flexible is very much appreciated. I look forward to meeting with Rachel weekly ”
