Becoming aware of our deeply held emotions for the purpose of healing can pave the path to restore a sense of calm and inner balance. Resilience isn’t about never being angry, sad, fearful or guilty. It is about knowing how to respond appropriately. Well-honed interpersonal skills are necessary to maintain social ties and fundamental to emotional literacy. When we feel disconnected from our true selves and people around us, an empathically attuned therapist can provide the safe environment we need to reconnect with our own inner wisdom and well-being.
Since earning her Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy and Art Therapy from Notre Dame De Namur University Nazanin has worked in a wide array of settings including mental health organizations, community based clinics and different school districts. Healing happens in the context of a therapeutic relationship between the patient and the therapist. This connection provides the foundation for attending to the problems and entails a dyadic commitment. Part of this process entails unraveling and integrating the unconscious with the conscious as well as reuniting the body and the mind. Through this process, the therapist supports the patients to hold their unbearable emotions and through this empathic holding, ultimately the patient can let go of their strong feelings. After a successful treatment, the patient could internalize the therapist’s holding function as their own.
Yasaman earned her PhD in Clinical Psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute, and her pre-doctoral and postdoctoral trainings have been in psychodynamic psychotherapy working with both adults and children. She is currently finishing up her Fellowship in Reiss Davies Child and Family center. She also integrates mindfulness in her practice, and she is part of Mindfulness Meditation Teacher training.
