Dr. Craig H. Dushey
Craig H. Dushey, MD, is a highly skilled and highly trained orthopedic surgeon at Manhattan Orthopedics. Dr. Dushey completed his orthopedic training at Yale and his fellowship training at the Hospital for Special Surgery. He specializes in hip and knee surgery, primary and revision total joint replacements and treatments for sports injuries and arthritis.
Dr. Dushey is strongly committed to patient education and provides customized treatment plans that respond to the specific needs and expectations of his patients. Dr. Dushey engages in both teaching and research and uses the most up-to-date techniques and technologies when treating his patients.
Dr. Dushey received his undergraduate degree from Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut. He earned his medical degree from Yale School of Medicine, where he graduated with honors. He completed his postdoctoral training in orthopedic surgery at the Yale Department of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation, where he served as chief resident. Dr. Dushey then completed his fellowship training in adult reconstructive surgery at the Hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan’s Upper East Side.
In addition to serving his patients, Dr. Dushey helps train future physicians in New York City as an assistant clinical professor at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in Manhattan. He has published scientific papers on complex hip reconstructions, strategies to avoid blood clots after surgery, and rare genetic bone problems. He has won numerous awards and has been featured in the New York Times “Best Doctors” supplement. In his spare time, Dr. Dushey enjoys tennis, skiing, and film, as well as doing volunteer work.

Dr. Maxim Tyorkin is a leading orthopedic specialist dedicated to providing patients in New York City with the most advanced care for musculoskeletal diseases, injuries and disorders. After earning his undergraduate degree in biology at Binghamton University and his M.D. At Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City, Dr. Tyorkin completed an internship in general surgery and a residency in orthopedic surgery at Stony Brook University, followed by a fellowship in sports medicine and arthroscopic surgery at Southern California Orthopedic Institute in Van Nuys.
Certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, Dr. Tyorkin is skilled in diagnosing and treating a broad range of musculoskeletal injuries and diseases, including conditions affecting the hips, shoulders, knees, elbows, wrists and ankles. His in-depth understanding of sports injuries helps him develop the most comprehensive treatment plans for all sorts of injuries to joints, ligaments, tendons and other soft tissues so recreational and professional athletes can return to their sports as soon as possible. He also has a wealth of experience treating occupational injuries, age-related diseases such as arthritis, and traumatic injuries sustained in car accidents and slip-and-fall accidents.
Dr. Tyorkin believes strongly in patient education, and works with each patient individually to address their concerns, answer their questions and understand their expectations so he can develop the most appropriate course of care, from conservative management to surgical treatment when necessary. His experience in leading hospitals and medical centers enables him to use the safest, most advanced state-of-the-art techniques available for optimal results.

Dr. Vikas V. Varma
Vikas V. Varma, MD, is a fellowship-trained and board-certified orthopedic surgeon at Manhattan Orthopedics, with locations in Midtown Manhattan, and Astoria, in New York. He embraces a patient-centered approach to shared decision making, with an emphasis on understanding patients as people, and getting them back to their active lifestyles as soon as possible.
In this regard, Dr. Varma combines his unique skills and training to use minimally invasive surgical techniques whenever possible. A meticulous surgeon, Dr. Varma comes from a family of physicians and prides himself on his ethical, personalized, detail-oriented approach to patient care.
As a published author, researcher, and surgeon educator, Dr. Varma has been invited to speak at domestic and international spine meetings to share his knowledge and expertise. He is an experienced surgeon, widely respected in Manhattan, known for his advanced technical surgical skills, and conservative multimodal approach to spine care. Dr. Varma specializes in the treatment of common adult degenerative conditions such as stenosis, spondylolisthesis, and herniated discs, as well as complex conditions such as spinal deformity surgery and revision surgery.
Dr. Vikas Varma holds an appointment at the Icahn School of Medicine, where he is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Spine Surgery in the Department of Orthopedics. He is also an attending spine surgeon at Mount Sinai Medical Center of Manhattan. He received his undergraduate bachelor’s degrees from Cornell University, where he was a 4-year Division I athlete. He also completed accelerated coursework at Johns Hopkins University and the University of Chicago. He then received his doctorate in medicine from the University of Maryland prior to matriculating to the University of Connecticut, where he completed a surgical internship followed by a residency in Orthopedic Surgery, serving as Chief Resident.
He was then selected as a fellow in the San Diego Spine Fellowship, under the direct tutelage of Dr. Behrooz Akbarnia, a world-renowned spine surgeon, and former president of the prestigious Scoliosis Research Society, the leading international society for the study of complex spine conditions. During his fellowship year, Dr. Varma treated many domestic and international patients with complex and rare spinal conditions in both the adult and pediatric populations, including major spinal reconstruction for spinal deformity, and revision surgery. He also was fortunate to receive training in advanced minimally invasive surgery and motion preservation surgery as a part of the comprehensive fellowship program.
Dr. Varma is an active member of the Scoliosis Research Society and dedicated faculty member within the Mount Sinai Department of Orthopedics where he is routinely involved in teaching medical students, orthopedic surgery residents, as well as fellows as part of the Sinai Spine Fellowship program. In the past, he has served as the Chief of Spine Surgery at Mount Sinai Hospital of Queens and Saint Barnabas Hospital.
In 2009, Dr. Varma performed the first Extreme Lateral Interbody Fusion(XLIF) at the Mount Sinai Medical Center and remains committed to minimally invasive surgery techniques. In 2017, he performed the first Oblique Lateral Interbody Fusion (OLIF) at Mount Sinai. He is routinely involved in teaching surgeons around the country as well as international surgeons, regarding these advanced techniques.
His interests include complex spine surgery, revision spine surgery, and spinal deformity surgery, as well as the use of minimally invasive techniques in complex spine conditions to better facilitate patient recovery and improved patient outcomes.
Edmond Cleeman, MD, is a highly experienced and skilled orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine specialist at Manhattan Orthopedics, with locations in Midtown Manhattan and Astoria, New York.
Board-certified in orthopedic surgery and sports medicine, Dr. Cleeman is committed to performing advanced minimally invasive procedures that address his patients’ issues and allow them to go home the same day.
Dr. Cleeman was featured in New York Magazine’s Best Doctors listing, as well as Castle Connolly Top Doctors. His specialty areas include cutting-edge techniques for relieving shoulder pain, bursitis, tears to the meniscus, ACL, biceps and labrum, dislocated shoulder and rotator cuff issues, and frozen shoulder.
Dr. Cleeman studied in New York City and received his undergraduate degree at New York University in Greenwich Village, Manhattan, and his medical degree at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. He completed a surgical internship and orthopedic surgery residency at Mount Sinai Hospital. Dr. Cleeman rounded out his postdoctoral training with a fellowship in sports medicine and arthroscopy at Nirschl Orthopaedic Center for Sports Medicine in Arlington, Virginia.
In addition to his clinic work, Dr. Cleeman serves as an assistant clinical professor at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and conducts orthopedic research. He is also an active member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American College of Sports Medicine. Dr. Cleeman’s artistry goes well beyond the surgical suite. He’s an accomplished painter whose work has been featured at several art exhibits. In his spare time, Dr. Cleeman enjoys cycling with the New York Cycling Club and has volunteered at the New York City Triathlon.

Dr. Guillermo Duarte
Guillermo Duarte, MD, is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon practicing at Manhattan Orthopedics which has locations in Brooklyn Heights, Midtown Manhattan and Astoria, Queens, in New York City. Dr. Duarte specializes in non-operative and operative management and care of the foot and ankle – including sports and tendon injuries, degenerative arthritic disorders, bunions and hammertoes, hindfoot deformities, flat foot, arthroscopic surgery, and fracture care.
