Chris Urband, MD, is a board-certified and fellowship-trained orthopaedic sports medicine doctor at the four Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Institute offices in Victorville, Pomona, and Barstow, California.
He specializes in shoulder surgery and shoulder reconstruction, including anatomic and reverse total shoulder arthroplasty. He is particularly interested in assisting patients with treatment for shoulder, hip, and knee injuries.
Dr. Urband’s background in engineering education allows him to get to the root cause of orthopedic issues. He spends adequate time with each patient to ensure an accurate diagnosis.
Dr. Urband earned his medical degree at the State University of New York at Stony Brook School of Medicine in Stony Brook, New York. He then traveled to Buffalo to complete his orthopedic surgery residency at the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Medicine before completing an orthopedic sports medicine fellowship at the TRIA Orthopaedic Center in Minnesota.
When he’s not at work, Dr. Urband is a triathlete and enjoys cycling, backpacking, surfing, and skiing. He used his education, experience treating the athletic population, and his personal love of sports to author multiple book chapters on upper extremity conditions.
Nirav Amin, MD, is a board-certified and fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon at the four Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Institute offices in Victorville, Pomona, and Barstow, California. He received specialized training in the preservation, investigation, and restoration of the extremities and spine and treats patients with musculoskeletal problems.
He enjoys helping patients with orthopedic injuries, degenerative diseases to reduce pain and help them return to their daily activities as soon as possible. He stays up-to-date with the latest orthopedic treatment and technologies and offers in-office arthroscopy for accurate diagnoses and treatment.
Dr. Amin earned his medical degree at the Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and stayed in the city to complete his orthopedic surgery residency at the Hahnemann University Hospital.
Dr. Amin traveled to Ohio to complete a sports medicine fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic, followed by an adult reconstruction and orthopedic surgery fellowship at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City.

Dr. Verma received his undergraduate degree in biomedical engineering from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. He obtained a master’s and medical degree from New York University School of Medicine in New York City, then completed residency training at the prestigious Rothman Institute at Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children in Wilmington, Delaware.
In 2015, Dr. Verma finished a spine fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco, which is known as the premier institution for pediatric and adult spinal deformities. Before opening his own practice, he was an assistant professor at the University of Washington in Seattle, where he built a multidisciplinary spine deformity service.
Dr. Verma maintains an active interest in clinical research. He has authored more than 150 publications and book chapters, publishing his work in the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, Spine Deformity, and other peer-reviewed journals. He has presented his research at the Scoliosis Research Society, the North American Spine Society, the Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America, and other professional meetings.
In 2010, he was awarded the cherished Russell Hibbs Award by the Scoliosis Research Society (SRS). As the oldest and most respected spine society, SRS focuses on the advancement of scoliosis care around the world. Dr. Verma was also selected in 2019 by The Leading Physicians to represent Los Alamitos as a Top Orthopaedic Surgeon of the Spine on FindaTopDoc.com.
Over the last decade, Dr. Verma has volunteered his services through FOCOS Orthopedic Hospital in Accra, Ghana, and the Global Spine Outreach, a nonprofit organization that provides spinal surgeries to underprivileged children around the world. Working together with these organizations, Dr. Verma has performed complex pediatric spine surgery in Africa, Colombia, and Mexico.
