Dr. Zahir is a board certified orthopaedic spine surgeon with an interest in endoscopic spinal procedures. He was formerly Clinical Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Georgetown University Hospital from 2012-2017, and served the Southern Maryland region during that time. He completed his medical residency at St. Mary’s San Francisco Orthopaedic Program before obtaining a fellowship from the Texas Back Institute. He specializes in both operative and conservative spine treatment. When surgical treatment is necessary, Dr. Perim focuses on minimally invasive procedures and ensures the best possible individualized care.
Dr. Perim treats a range of degenerative conditions, such as spinal stenosis, disc herniations, tumors, and trauma. He also helps children with stress fractures in the lower back, scoliosis, and other conditions. For spinal compression fractures, Dr. Perim can provide a minimally invasive special procedure called kyphoplasty when necessary.
Dr. Perim is an active member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He also teaches fellow spine surgeons valuable minimally invasive surgical techniques and methods.

Derek A. Kram, MD, FAAOS is a board-certified Orthopaedic Surgeon with extensive experience in General Orthopaedic Care, Knee Reconstruction and Sports Medicine. David M. Before joining the team at Greater Washington Orthopaedic Group in 2005, Dr. Smink graduated with honors from Amherst College in Amherst, Massachusetts. There, he was captain and MVP of the hockey team. He also earned the Manstein Family Award for excellence in pre-medical studies and athletics. He then attended medical school at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland. There, he served as vice president of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honors Medical Society.
After finishing his education, Dr. Smink received specialty training in orthopaedic surgery as chief resident at Rush Presbyterian St. Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago. Then, he moved to Massachusetts for a sports medicine fellowship at Harvard University Massachusetts General Hospital. It was during this fellowship that he was a team physician for the New England Patriots, the Boston Bruins, and the athletic teams at Harvard University.

Samuel Sanders, MD, FAAOS, is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon at Greater Washington Orthopaedic Group, PA, in Silver Spring, GermanTown, and Rockville, Maryland. As a Maryland native, Dr. Sanders finds it important to serve athletes and others in his community with compassionate care and understanding.
Dr. Sanders has an extensive educational background. After graduating as valedictorian from Bullis School in Potomac, Maryland, he attended the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia for his undergraduate degree in the biological basis of behavior. Then, he moved to Washington, D.C., to attend medical school at The George Washington University School of Medicine.
After medical school, Dr. Sanders completed a residency in orthopaedic surgery at the prestigious Hospital for Joint Diseases in New York City.
