Dr. Kameelah Phillips is a board certified Obstetrician and Gynecologist, wife, mother, and lifelong women’s health advocate. Since high school, she has been involved in local, national, and international organizations aimed at advancing women’s health care issues through advocacy and direct patient care.
Dr. Phillips graduated from Stanford University with a degree in Human Biology with an emphasis in Women’s Health and Human Sexuality. After graduation, she worked at the San Francisco Department of Public Health in the AIDS office as a Research Assistant on HIV vaccine studies. She relocated to Los Angeles to attend the University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine.
During medical school, she received numerous community service awards. She was privileged to travel to Ghana, Cuba, and Tanzania on health missions during this time. Upon completion of medical school, she attended a competitive OB/GYN residency at the New York University School of Medicine.
I graduated from the Midwifery Program at SUNY Downstate Medical Center. Prior to becoming a midwife, I was an Ob/Gyn sonographer. Upon graduation from Downstate, I received multiple awards for dedication and perseverance to the Midwifery Program. I worked for a very busy private Ob Gyn practice in the last three years and will continue to be determined and dedicated to keeping the well-being of women, their babies and family members foremost in my mind.
Dr. Kakossian graduated Medical School with Honors and Distinction in 1991. She completed an exchange fellowship program at Columbia University, NY in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. She graduated as Chief resident in Obstetrics & Gynecology at Lutheran Medical Center, NY.
Dr. Kakossian has done extensive research in Laparoscopic and Hysteroscopic Surgery for different gynecologic conditions and produced many publications in this field. She was trained by and operated with the professor and founder of Laparoscopic Surgery Dr. H. Reich at Columbia University, NY. She lectured at International Conferences of Gynecologic Surgeons in Las Vegas, Miami, Montreal, and Atlanta and demonstrated the latest advances in Laparoscopic surgery in Moscow, Russia.
Women’s Health has always been of primary interest of Dr. Kakossian. Dr. Obianwu received in Bachelor of Science in microbiology from Tulsa University, before going on to get his doctorate of medicine from Ross University. Following medical school, Dr. Obianwu completed a fellowship in minimally invasive cosmetic surgery.
Dr. Obianwu is a Fellow of the American College of Gynecology, a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and a Fellow of the American College of Cosmetic Surgery. From 2006 to 2016, Dr. Obianwu worked as the chief of Obstetrics at Virtua-Memorial Hospital in Mount Holly, New Jersey. While there, he sat on several committees, took on a variety of leadership roles, and piloted the hospital’s da Vinci® robotic surgery program. He continues to serve on the Virtua Hospital Robotic Steering Committee.

Dr. Matta earned his undergraduate degree at the State University of New York at Buffalo in Buffalo, New York. He went on to complete his medical training at the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine in Old Westbury, New York.
He completed his OB/GYN internship and residency through New York Medical College at Our Lady of Mercy Medical Center in the Bronx, New York. He then completed a fellowship at Yale University School of Medicine in New Haven, Connecticut, where he worked as a clinical instructor in the maternal-fetal medicine division of the OB/GYN department.

Alecia Giovinazzo is a board certified doctor in obstetrics and gynecology. She did her residency in ob/gyn at Richmond University Medical Center hospital and started her own practice in 2005. She has professional experience in general ob/gyn, advanced laparoscopy, and high risk pregnancy. Dr. Giovinazzo has received awards for her efforts in clinical teaching and for her expertise in laparoscopic surgery. She is a fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, a member of the Society of Laparoscopic Surgeons, Center for Human Reproduction, and Richmond County Medical Society. Dr. Giovinazzo is also fluent in Spanish.
Our Physician Assistant, Michelle, has over 10 years of experience working in fields such as emergency medicine and intensive care until she specialized and excelled in obstetrics and gynecology oncology. Dr. Kathleen Zafra is an experienced OB/GYN and received her medical degree with the Global Scholars Program of Saint George’s University. Dr. Zafra completed her OB/GYN residency at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York where she was honored with the Resident Achievement Award and the Excellence in Teaching Award in recognition for both her outstanding patient care and her commitment to medical student education. Dr. Zafra obtained her Bachelor’s in Biology and Public Health at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, where she performed research that was published in the Journal of Biology and Reproduction.
Dr. Katarzyna Perlman received her medical degree from Semmelweis University School of Medicine in Budapest, Hungary, and is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Perlman completed her residency in OB/GYN at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York. She has received the Laparoscopy and Endoscopy Award from the American Association of Gynecological Laparoscopists as well as the Finalist Award from the Brooklyn Gynecological Society. Dr. Perlman is currently the Director of Urodynamics at Boro Park OB/GYN. She is particularly qualified in Urodynamics and in performing Essures and Hystrosonograms. Dr. Perlman is fluent in Polish, Swedish, and Hungarian. She enjoys theatre, traveling and spending time with her family.
Jen Wilen saw her first birth as a Peace Corps Volunteer in West Africa nearly 20 years ago and knew then that she wanted to become a midwife. After the Peace Corps, Jen got her Masters in Public Health at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. She then spent a decade working in global health and women's rights, spending much of that time overseas. She later obtained both her Bachelors of Science in Nursing and her Masters in Midwifery from Columbia University. Prior to joining Boro Park, Jen worked as a Certified Nurse Midwife at Woodhull Medical and Mental Health Center in Brooklyn. Jen speaks both Spanish and French and loves caring for women and babies from all of the wonderfully diverse communities that call Brooklyn their home.
Dr. Shira Alter received her medical degree from the Sackler School of Medicine in Ramat Gan, Israel. She completed her residency in OB/GYN at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York and is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Alter previously was a faculty physician at Sheba Medical Center and a regional health specialist at Maccabi Health Center in Israel. Dr. Alter is particularly skilled in treating women with high-risk pregnancies and specializes in providing care for diabetic patients. In addition to her extensive medical background, Dr. Alter has a Masters of Science degree in Psychological Counseling from the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Alter is fluent in Hebrew.
Dr. Yvonne Noel is a board-certified OB/GYN. She received her doctorate degree in medicine from Chicago Medical School and her undergraduate degree from William Smith College in Geneva, New York. Dr. Noel completed her internship and residency in OB/GYN at SUNY Health Science Center at Brooklyn-Kings County Medical Center. She also completed a Fellowship in Pelvic Surgery at SUNY Health Science Center at Syracuse. Dr. Noel has previously held positions such as Clinical Assistant Instructor and Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Cornell University and SUNY Health Science Center. Dr. Noel holds a Master of Arts in Environmental Education and Conservation and has focused on Health and Climate Change.
Alina Fuchs MD MBS BS has obstetrics and gynecology and medicine in her genes. Her aunt Dr. Smekuna was the delivering OB/Gyn with her birth. Her uncle Dr. M Fuks and Dr. A. Fuks are both practicing physicians, her mother Dr. M Fuchs is a dentist. And her husband Dr. Alexeev is a current pain management fellow.
She received bachelor of science from Rutgers University. Master’s degree of biomedical sciences at UMDNJ. Medical degree from American University of Antigua, College of Medicine. She completed her internship in obstetrics and gynecology at Nassau University Medical Center and her residency training at Maimonides Medical Center where she served as a chief resident.
Dr. Fuchs offers a full spectrum of women’s health services, including pap tests, contraception counseling, STD testing, LEEP, and sterilization. After graduating she has been practicing in central New Jersey where she provides care to women in all stages of their life; from family planning to menopause. She is fluent in Russian.
When she is not with patients, Dr. Fuchs loves spending times with her family. Her husband and son.
Dr. Elaine Sklar is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and received her medical degree from the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine in Old Westbury, New York. Dr. Sklar was appointed Chief Resident while completing her residency in OB/GYN at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York. Dr. Sklar is professionally affiliated with the American Medical Association and the American Osteopathic Association, and is a Junior Fellow of the American Board of OB/GYN. She enjoys spending time with her husband and three adorable sons.
