Dr. Malia Kunioka was born and raised on Oahu, where she attended Mililani High School. After receiving her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregon, Dr. Kunioka then earned her Doctorate of Optometry degree from Southern California College of Optometry in Fullerton, California.
Dr. Kunioka’s clinical experience includes work at the Veterans Administration in Tucson, Arizona, the Indian Health Service in Crownpoint, New Mexico, Naval Health Clinic Hawaii at both MCBH and Pearl Harbor, and the University Eye Center at Ketchum Health. She has been a member of numerous optometric associations in both Hawaii and California, such as Omega Delta Optometric Fraternity and the Hawaii Optometric Association.
Outside of the office, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, hanging out at the beach, and baking. As a recent grad, Dr. Kunioka is excited to be back home to serve the community she grew up in.
For almost 25 years, Dr. Eri Sugino has been providing Hawaii’s people with exceptional, compassionate care at the Cataract & Vision Center of Hawaii. Originally from Torrance, California, Dr. Sugino received her Bachelor of Science from the University of California, Los Angeles. She earned her doctorate at the Southern California College of Optometry in Fullerton, California.
Dr. Sugino’s extensive clinical experience includes work at the Vision Therapy Clinic and Contact Lens Clinic at the Optometric Center of Fullerton, the Veterans Administration Medical Center in West Los Angeles, and the Naval Regional Medical Center in San Diego, California. Dr. Sugino was in private practice with the Eye Medical Group of Gardena, California prior to joining the staff of the Cataract & Vision Center of Hawaii. She has been a member of numerous optometric associations both in Hawaii and California, such as the Beta Sigma Kappa Optometric Honor Society and the Omega Delta Optometric Fraternity.
Fluent in both Japanese and English, Dr. Sugino appears monthly on KZOO Radio (1210 AM) with Dr. Brandon Lee to educate the Japanese community on important topics related to general eye health and eye care. The program airs on the second Monday of every month from 4:30-5:00 pm.
Dr. Sugino is happily married to Dr. Glenn Shigezawa, also an optometrist, and their son Bradley is a competitive golfer at the collegiate level at Claremont McKenna College.
Dr. Sarah Takenaka is a graduate of Punahou School, University of Minnesota College of Biological Sciences (BS in Biological Science), University of Houston College of Optometry (OD), Magna Cum Laude. Specializing in general eye care with vision therapy, pediatrics, binocular vision evaluations, retinal and neuro-ophthalmological care (Post brain-injury evaluation), Specialty Premium & Scleral Contact Lenses (Duette, SynergyEyes) including Keratoconus and other Corneal conditions including Dry & Allergy eyes, Therapeutic Management of Ocular Diseases, progressive, preventive nutritional counseling & guidance, and special use of advanced high definition imaging & digital computerized systems.
Dr. Au born in Hawaii is a new addition to our practice in November 2019 and is from the Western University Health Sciences School of Optometry. His dedication and academic experience will be a great asset to our practice. Always desiring to learn and provide special care to our patients. Specializing in General Eye Care with an emphasis on Specialty Contact Lenses (Hybrids, Scleral, Duette) including complex multifocals, pediatrics/vision therapy and Corneal conditions including Dry & Allergy eyes. His experience includes working at Western University’s Eye Care Institute in pediatrics, contact lens, vision therapy, primary care and low vision as well as at Eisner Family Health in Los Angeles, CA and Atwater, CA at a Community Health Clinic.
Dr. Jessica Y. Cho is a graduate of Punahou School, University of California ( BS in Biological Science), Georgetown University (Master of Science, Physiology and Biophysics) and the Southern California College of Optometry (VS, OD). Specializing in General Eye Care with an emphasis on Specialty Contact Lenses (Hybrids, Scleral, Duette) including complex multifocals and Corneal conditions including Dry & Allergy eyes, Strabismus and Amblopia, Therapeutic Management of Ocular Diseases, progressive including Glaucoma, preventive nutritional counseling & guidance, and special use of advanced imaging digital computerized systems. Dr Cho is also fluent in Korean, and able to converse in Spanish.
Clinical experiences includes VA at Southern Nevada Healthcare Systems, Hoopes Vision, VA at Los Angeles Ambulatory Care, Eyecare Center in Fullerton (California), research assistant at the Southern California College of Optometry, and University of California Irvine Medical Center.

Her hobbies include world-wide traveling, nature oriented hiking, cosmetic and dietary nutrition, and fine dining.

When not assisting his patients, Dr. Endo enjoys photography, hiking, collecting unusual manifestations of natural earth, and designing natural landscapes with sculptures.
