Born and raised in Seattle, Dr. Ostrom received his Bachelor of Science in microbiology from the University of Washington in 1999. Throughout his undergraduate studies, Dr. Ostrom was actively involved in cardiovascular research at the university and at the local biotechnology company ZymoGenetics, Inc.

Shortly after graduating, Dr. Ostrom began his medical studies at Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine. Dr. Sarsam received his medical education at the University of Baghdad / College of Medicine in Iraq. Following the second Gulf War, he moved to the United States and attended the Wayne State University / Detroit Medical Center where he completed his Internal Medicine Residency. He then completed his fellowship in General and Interventional Cardiology at Michigan State University / Providence Providence-Park Hospitals in Detroit, MI.
