Best surgeon ever! I am a professional ballroom dancer and got a turn meniscus. Had the same injury before on other knee and had the same type of surgery from other surgeon. So I knew what to expect. But doctor Makani exceeded myShow more expectations. I wish I knew him before. He does his job amazingly. Talks straight to the point without unnecessary information and makes you understand very clearly what is going on in your body and what treatment you need to get. After the surgery he showed me pictures and explained everything that was done very patiently. I had a little complication and didn’t know what to do- so he made time the very next day to see me and when I had any questions I just left voicemail and got a call from him immediately after that ( and it was Sunday night!!!) And he has the most amazing Staff!!! Linda is so helpful with any questions you might have and deals with anything in a very timely manner. Would definitely recommend to friends, family and everyone else!
After a year of terrible knee pain, I found an affordable doctor since I am self pay. I had to cancel my initial appointment (due to needing to travel on Friday) and was upset about it due to my level of pain. The nurse actually wShow moreorked me in on Wednesday. Everyone in the office was so caring and empathetic. I loved it there. I slept better last night (less pain) than I have in a year and I am not dreading all the walking through the airport now. I will never go anywhere else!!!
Dr. Amun Makani is a Harvard-trained, double board-certified orthopedic surgeon and orthopedic sports medicine specialist. Dr. Makani is an active fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery.
Dr. Makani offers state-of-the-art diagnostics and innovative, personalized care to treat painful orthopaedic issues and sports injuries including complex knee cartilage and ligamentous injuries, shoulder pathology including rotator cuff injuries and advanced arthritis in all major joints.
Dr. Makani graduated Magna Cum Laude from Northwestern University and was inducted into the Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society for his achievement in Biomedical Engineering. Dr. Makani earned his Doctor of Medicine at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago, Illinois.
He was selected as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society, an honor given to the top of one’s medical school class. He was selected to complete his orthopaedic surgery residency at the ivy league University of Pennsylvania Health System in Philadelphia, the oldest orthopaedic residency in the country.
Following his residency, Dr. Makani completed additional rigorous fellowship training in orthopaedic sports medicine at Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts. Dr. Makani also earned a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Northwestern University Kellogg School of Management.
Dr. Makani has years of experience in clinical and athletic environments. In addition to conventional orthopedic care, he also provides newer modalities including injection treatments to help patients get back to their regular activities quickly. Dr. Makani performed my bicep tendon surgery and shoulder arthroscopy. Along the entire process from consultation to pre and post surgery he explained everything that would be occurring and always asked if I had any questions along the way. I highly recommend seeing Dr. Makani for any Orthopaedic needs.
Dr. Makani was my orthopedist while he was in Lakeland. I was in his office his last day and discovered he was opening his practice in St. Pete. 3 years later when i needed Knee Replacement i chose to go to St Pete for the surgery. Surgery went well. Well worth the trip from Winter Have !!
