Originally from Boston Massachusetts, she was educated at first at Mass General Hospital, and later at Boston College. She worked as a Registered Nurse for many years in cardiothoracic nursing as well as brain injury and spinal cord rehabilitation. She relocated to Texas in 1997 and worked at The Texas Instituted for Rehabilitation and Research (TIRR) before returning to UTMB to continue her education.
