Dr. Calonje was born in Managua, Nicaragua. His father is a retired pediatrician who practiced for 20 years in Miami, Florida. His brother is an OB/GYN currently practicing at St. Alexius Medical Center in Illinois.

He applies his extensive experience at Dermatology Consultants P.A. in Miramar and Hialeah, Florida. Dr. Mendez has over thirteen years of experience in general dermatology and specializes in Mohs surgery.
Dr. Mendez served as a voluntary Assistant Professor of Dermatology and Cutaneous Surgery at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.
