She graduated from Cornell University and earned her medical degree from New York University School of Medicine, where she was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society. She went on to complete her ophthalmology residency and a fellowship in medical retina at Tufts Medical Center.
Following her training, Dr. Muakkassa joined the faculty at Tufts Medical Center as an assistant professor. During her time there, she led the retina curriculum for ophthalmology residents and contributed to the training of retina fellows. Dr. Muakkassa is the co-founder of OphthoGenie, an educational ophthalmology company she started with her colleague in 2019. She has published several scientific articles and presented her research at national ophthalmology meetings.
Since 2019, Dr. Muakkassa has been dedicated to providing comprehensive ophthalmic care in Colorado, with a special focus on diseases of the retina.

Michael K. Cavanagh, MD joined Westmed Family HealthCare. He has a special interest in Sports Medicine and Wilderness Medicine. He is Board Certified. During his leisure time, Dr. Cavanagh enjoys running, cycling and snowboarding. Originally from Connecticut, he is married with two children.
