After training, Dr. Melder became a staff surgeon at Walter Reed and an associate program director at the National Capital Consortium Otolaryngology Training Program. Dr. Melder later became Chief, Otolaryngology at Walter Reed. Dr. Melder served on active duty for 13 years and left active duty to pursue a private practice career.
