As the only organization in the United States with standalone sickle cell Centers of Excellence, The Foundation for Sickle Cell Disease Research welcomes patients from all over the world. Gershwin Blyden, MD, PhD, FCP, FACP, is a board-certified hematologist-oncologist and medical director of The Foundation for Sickle Cell Disease Research, with locations in Homestead, Orlando, Lakeland, Jacksonville, Belle Glade, Tallahassee, and Hollywood, Florida. With more than 40 years of diverse experience, Dr. Blyden is an esteemed physician in his field.

After receiving his bachelor’s degree in plant science from the Tuskegee Institute (now Tuskegee University) in Tuskegee, Alabama, in 1967, Dr. Blyden earned a PhD in pharmacology from prestigious Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut, in 1976. Just three years later, he also earned his medical doctorate cum laude from Yale University.

In 1985, Dr. Blyden completed an internal medicine internship at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. That same year, he also finished his hematology/oncology and clinical pharmacology fellowship at Tufts Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts. 

After graduating and completing his training, Dr. Blyden worked as an adjunct professor for the Barry University School of Podiatric Medicine in Miami Shores, Florida, an associate clinical professor of hematology and oncology at the University of Miami School of Medicine in Miami, Florida, and as an associate professor of clinical pharmacy and director of the Clinical Pharmacology Research Unit at Florida A&M University’s Miami location.

Today, Dr. Blyden is a leader in the field of sickle cell treatment, case management, and research. He provides comprehensive care for chronic diseases, with a special emphasis on sickle cell anemia.

Dr. Marie Amanze is a Hematologist/Oncologist serving FSCDR patients in the Jacksonville and Florida Panhandle regions. She specializes in the diagnosis, treatment, and long-term management of blood disorders, including sickle cell disease, and is dedicated to improving patient outcomes through comprehensive and compassionate care.

Richard R. Bobé, MD, FACP is an internist who offers concierge medicine services at his own private practice located in Delray Beach, Florida. He and his team firmly believe that strong doctor-patient relationships are integral to achieving lasting optimal wellness. 

Dr. Bobé was born in New York, New York, and earned his Bachelor of Science in physics from Fordham University, located in the Bronx. He then continued his education at the State University of New York Downstate Medical Center, located in Brooklyn, where he completed his medical training. Dr. Bobé then practiced as a board-certified internal medicine physician in New York and Arizona before relocating to Boca Raton, Florida.

Omar Issa, DO, FACC, practices concierge internal medicine and cardiology at Coral Gables Cardiology Associates, P.A. in Coral Gables, Florida. Dr. Issa’s practice centers on evidence-based medicine, and he has particular expertise in preventive care as well as cardiovascular evaluation and treatment. Dr. Issa has a special interest in the cardiovascular care of athletes. He completed an advanced cardiovascular fellowship in sports cardiology/cardiac performance with Harvard Medical School at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. During his training, Dr. Issa provided care to hundreds of amateur, elite level, and professional athletes, including those from the New England Patriots, Boston Bruins, and Boston Red Sox.

He is utilizing this experience in his current work with the Miami Heat, NBA G League, Inter Miami CF, and Florida International University athletic teams. His vision is to bring these techniques of performance optimization to amateur and recreational athletes in the Miami area. 

Dr. Issa graduated with a Bachelor of Science in microbiology from the University of Florida and then received his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Western University of Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific in California. After returning to Florida, Dr. Issa did his internship and residency in internal medicine at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach. He also completed a fellowship in cardiovascular disease with the Columbia University Division of Cardiology at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach.

Dr. Issa holds board certification in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease, adult comprehensive echocardiography, nuclear cardiology, and vascular interpretation. He has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals and presented research to professional organizations such as the American College of Cardiology.

Jacqueline Bradley, MD, FACC, has almost a decade of experience providing concierge internal medicine and cardiology care to patients at Coral Gables Cardiology Associates, P.A. in Coral Gables, Florida. She holds board certifications in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease, and adult echocardiography.

Dr. Bradley has a wellness-centric approach to patient care and is known for her attentive, mindful, and caring manner. After finishing her residency, Dr. Bradley completed her fellowship in cardiology at Danbury Hospital, affiliated with the Yale School of Medicine, in Connecticut. Throughout her years of residency and fellowship training, Dr. Bradley participated in cardiology research with numerous experts in the field. She has also published scientific research in peer-reviewed journals.
