Some may ask, what is a Naturopathic Doctor (ND)? Naturopathic physicians combine the wisdom of nature with the rigors of modern science. Steeped in traditional healing methods, principles, and practices, naturopathic medicine focuses on holistic, proactive prevention and comprehensive diagnosis and treatment. By using protocols that minimize the risk of harm, naturopathic physicians help facilitate the body’s inherent ability to restore and maintain optimal health. It is the naturopathic physician’s role to identify and remove barriers to good health by helping to create a healing internal and external environment.
Naturopathic physicians work in private practices, hospitals, clinics, and community health centers. NDs practice throughout the United States and Canada. Qualified naturopathic physicians undergo rigorous training before they become licensed health-care practitioners.
NDs treat all medical conditions and can provide both individual and family health care. Among the most common ailments they treat are allergies, chronic pain, digestive issues, hormonal imbalances, obesity, respiratory conditions, heart disease, fertility problems, menopause, adrenal fatigue, adjunctive cancer care, fibromyalgia, and chronic fatigue syndrome. NDs can perform minor surgeries, such as removing cysts or stitching up superficial wounds. However, they do not practice major surgery. NDs are trained to utilize prescription drugs, although the emphasis of naturopathic medicine is the use of natural healing agents.
“The quality of care received from this doctor is beyond any care I have had in my adult life.
Sometimes the office can be hard to reach, making appts, getting through on the phone. But they try their best and do really care.”
“Working with Caroline and the LWell team has been fantastic, the personal care and commitment has kept me on track and continuing to get closer to reaching my health goals. Everything feels doable and not overwhelming and I get excited for my next call or appt!”

Maxwell Muehleip, DC, known affectionately by his patients as Dr. Max, is a chiropractor practicing at Nutura Clinic, a naturopathic medicine practice located in Portland, Oregon.
Dr. Max was born in Chicago, Illinois, and as a child encountered many health challenges. He suffered from constant colds and infections, asthma, and allergies. In middle school, he and his family moved to rural Wisconsin. There he was surrounded by fresh air, plenty of room to run around, and plenty of vegetables from the garden. Max’s allergies and asthma began to subside. He also met a chiropractor, Dr. Kurt Burbach of Dyersville, Iowa, who told him that chiropractors, like Jedis, “use the Force” to help people. This idea embedded itself in Max’s brain, and after seeing chiropractic save his cousin from neck surgery and his mother from nerve pain, he knew he wanted to be involved in natural healthcare.
However, in high school, bad habits and temptations fought back, and he developed severe cystic acne and frequent colds and infections. This followed him into college when after his sophomore year, lackluster grades and a sense of waywardness led Max to do some soul-searching. After weeks of focused attention, but he was finally able to articulate his life’s mission: teaching people practical ways to live fuller, healthier lives.
The next two years of schooling were difficult, and Max learned the real meaning of hard work. Max graduated from Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota, and was then accepted into the chiropractic program at the University of Western States, located in Portland, Oregon. During chiropractic school, his health improved. His frequent colds and infections subsided, his weight dropped to a healthy level, his blood pressure lowered, and his acne cleared up. This process wasn’t easy; there were many days when he thought about giving up, but his mission motivated him even on his worst days.
Dr. Max graduated from the University of Western States with his doctorate in chiropractic; then, he graduated a year later with his masters in human nutrition & functional medicine.
In January 2018, Dr. Max and his wife, Maya, welcomed their son Magnus into the world. Although he still encounters challenges pertaining to his health (his ‘dad belly’ is growing at the moment), Dr. Max understands that health and happiness are life-long journeys. He is currently finishing requirements to become a certified nutrition specialist (CNS).
Dr. Max is fully committed to you and your family’s total health and wellness. His goal is to help his patients live their lives with healthy bodies and minds, affording them the highest quality of life possible.
“I was having vertigo and had no appointment that didn’t matter to Dr max and his staff they got me in and happy to say sooo much better he is the best thank you nutura clinic !!! ”

Humaira Quraishi, ND, MS, is a naturopathic doctor serving patients at her practice in Fort Lee, New Jersey. She aims to inspire, empower, educate, and treat her patients’ health issues.
Born in Pakistan, Dr. Quraishi immigrated to the United States with her parents when she was 4 years old. She has traveled to Pakistan throughout her life to visit family, and during that time, she gained an awareness of health and wellness in both countries. There were differences but also similarities, such as doctors quickly seeing patients without proper care or guidance into their lifestyle as well as the lack of education about illnesses.
With these in mind, Dr. Quraishi knew there was more to health than just prescribing medication to mask symptoms. She wanted to get to the root of the problem and help prevent diseases in the first place. Thus, she began her quest into naturopathic medicine and nutrition.
Dr. Quraishi graduated with her Bachelor of Science in biology from Fairleigh Dickinson University. She then pursued her Master of Science in nutrition at the University of Bridgeport Nutrition Institute before earning her Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine from the University of Bridgeport School of Naturopathic Medicine.
During her time in Bridgeport, Dr. Quraishi interned at Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Philadelphia and worked with many naturopathic physicians in the fields of kidney disease, food allergy, gastroenterology, and general health. She is a member of the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians and New Jersey Association of Naturopathic Physicians.
Many factors play into health, such as the root cause, nutrition, vitamin and nutritional deficiencies, mind-body wellness, and education about diseases. Dr. Quraishi strives to use all of these in her own practice.
Dr. Quraishi is beyond excited and grateful to guide patients through their healing journey and teach them how to heal themselves now and into the future.

“Good conversation t I pinpoint what I'm doing wrong. Happy with the service and eating plan received. It would be five stars if they had an actual plan that tells you what to eat daily tailored to you, it'll take the guess work out of it. Their main focus is portioning the main food groups correctly which I already do to a certain degree.”
