Family nurse practitioner Jerria Bernestine, FNP-C, is the co-owner and medical care provider at Hands on Health Wellness Center. Jerria specializes in integrative and functional medicine and provides primary care, weight loss, intravenous (IV) therapy, and other holistic whole-person medical care in the Carrollton, Texas, office.
Jerria earned her associate’s degree in nursing at Los Angeles County College of Nursing in Los Angeles, California. Wanting to provide the highest degree of care to her patients, she went on to complete her master’s in nursing at the University of Texas in Arlington, Texas.
As a nurse practitioner, Jerria has steadily built her knowledge and skills in diverse areas for over 20 years. Her clinical experience includes working in primary care, functional medicine, perioperative care, telemetry, observation, and preventive care.

Njeri Kai Jarvis, MS, RD, LDN, is the owner of Bear Nutrition and Herbs, or BNH Wellness, an integrative nutrition and wellness practice located in Washington, DC. Her nutrition practice covers a wide range of health issues from body composition, cardiac, endocrine and kidney imbalances to cancer and autoimmunity. She also specializes in food-sensitivity issues as they relate to ADHD, autism, mood regulation, and chronic health conditions.
Njeri uses a variety of functional testing methods to look for wellness potential as well as underlying imbalances upon which to target diet and nutritional programs. She uses this testing along with an extensive health assessment to develop individualized nutrition and lifestyle programs. Her desire is for her clients to realize their health potential as they create lives devoted to healthy eating and living.
Njeri completed her undergraduate studies at Howard University, where she majored in nutrition and dietetics. Then in 2018, she earned a Master of Science in herbal medicine at the Maryland University of Integrative Health. Njeri is a board-certified, licensed dietician with over 19 years of clinical practice experience with additional study and specialization for ADHD, autism spectrum disorders (ASD), and functional nutrition. Mara Heiden is a lactation professional, birth doula, and photographer. She started her journey in birth and lactation three years ago. She graduated from University of California San Diego’s Lactation Consultant program, with the required education hours and hands-on lactation training. She is currently an IBCLC and a double-certified birth doula.
Her background is in infant and child development, and she holds a graduate degree in Elementary Education. She is also a sleep consultant, concentrating in biologically normal and attachment-based infant and toddler sleep. She is passionate about holistic birth, infant feeding, and documenting the beautiful process from birth to postpartum through photography.
Mara spends her free time homeschooling her kids, traveling, and painting.
