A North Carolina native, Dr. McGowan grew up in the Piedmont Triad region and has dedicated her medical career to serving patients across the state. She earned her Doctor of Medicine degree from the prestigious Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University in Greenville, NC, where she developed a strong foundation in evidence-based medicine and compassionate patient care.

Following medical school, Dr. McGowan completed her residency training in Pediatrics at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. She then pursued advanced fellowship training in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine, further expanding her expertise in the care of infants, children, and families. She is board certified in General Pediatrics and board eligible in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine.

Originally from Raleigh, North Carolina, she plans to pursue a career in medicine and is passionate about supporting underserved communities through healthcare, mentorship, and advocacy. At BU, Kaavya is involved in Kappa Delta Sorority and a reproductive rights advocacy group, where she enjoys building community and engaging in conversations surrounding women’s health and access to care.

Outside of academics, Kaavya loves exploring Boston, trying new restaurants and cafés, attending sporting events, and spending time with friends and family. She is also passionate about dance and enjoys both performing and choreographing, using creativity and collaboration as an important outlet outside of school and work.
