Henry Choi, MD, is a board-certified retinal ophthalmologist who provides excellent care to his patients at Retina Specialists. He currently works out of the practice’s locations in Plano and Mesquite, Texas.
Dr. Choi was born in Queens, New York, and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in History from Columbia College at Columbia University in Morningside Heights, Manhattan, and earned his medical degree from the State University of New York (SUNY) at Downstate College of Medicine in Wingate, Brooklyn.
He stayed in New York City for part of his postgraduate training, completing an internship at St. Luke’s – Roosevelt Hospital Center and an ophthalmology residency at SUNY. He then relocated to Dallas to pursue a vitreoretinal surgery fellowship at the University of Texas (UT) Southwestern Medical Center and Parkland Memorial Hospital.
Dr. Choi holds certification from the American Board of Ophthalmology, is a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and has been on the team at Retina Specialists since 2009. In his work, he maintains a focus on diseases and surgery of the macula, vitreous, and retina, and maintains a special interest in the surgical management of diabetic retinopathy and complex retinal detachments. He has also worked as a voluntary professor of vitreoretinal ophthalmology at the UT Southwestern Medical Center Residency Program.
In addition to English, Dr. Choi speaks Korean and Vietnamese. When he isn’t helping the Texas community fight against blindness, he likes to snowboard, cheer for the New York Mets, and travel with his wife and three children.
Dr. Arun Joseph is a board-certified ophthalmologist and Harvard fellowship-trained glaucoma specialist. His primary clinical interest is in glaucoma, and he is specialized in its prevention, diagnosis, and medical and surgical management.
To further advance his training, Dr. Joseph accepted a surgical glaucoma fellowship at Harvard Medical School’s Massachusetts Eye and Ear and Massachusetts General Hospital. He was trained in the full array of interventional glaucoma, including both office-based and surgical laser treatments, minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS), and traditional major glaucoma surgery (tube shunt implantation and trabeculectomy). During his fellowship, he was also mentored by renowned ophthalmologist Dr. Mark Latina, a pioneer in medical lasers and the inventor of selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT). SLT has become one of the most effective treatments for glaucoma, and Dr. Joseph is one of the few specialists in the country to train directly under Dr. Latina.
After completing his fellowship, Dr. Joseph returned home and founded Dallas Glaucoma Specialists in 2018 with the goal of providing premier glaucoma care in his hometown community. In 2019, he became the first surgeon to implant the revolutionary XEN glaucoma stent in Collin County. He believes in a customized approach and having an open discussion with each patient about their glaucoma and, if necessary, appropriate treatment options. His priority is to offer every patient the highest standard of care in a friendly, respectful, and personalized way.
In his spare time, Dr. Joseph enjoys playing golf and passionately supporting Longhorns football.
