Dr. Alex Onishi is a skilled ophthalmologist serving patients throughout Santa Monica and the greater Los Angeles area at the practice of E. Joseph Nadji, MD.

  Dr. Onishi is a native Californian who graduated with the highest distinction from the University of California, Berkeley. He then spent four years of medical school in Chicago at Northwestern University, where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He went on to complete his residency training in ophthalmology at the University of California, Los Angeles Stein Eye Institute.   Dr. Onishi offers the full spectrum of ophthalmology services, with a special interest in cataract and refractive surgery. Dr. Nadji is a fellowship-trained, board-certified ophthalmologist. He takes pride in giving each patient individual attention and always allows them the chance to ask any and all of their questions. He specializes in sutureless cataract surgery and is one of the few surgeons in Santa Monica performing the newest laser cataract surgery. He is available for ophthalmic consultation and can screen for glaucoma, dry eyes, macular degeneration, cataracts, and diabetes.


Dr. Nadji graduated from the University of Texas at Austin and attended medical school at the University of Texas Southwestern. He then moved to New York to complete his residency at Nassau University Medical Center and his cornea fellowship at Ophthalmic Consultants of Long Island under the mentorship of Dr. Henry Perry and Dr. Eric Donennfeld, two leaders in the field. In fellowship, Dr. Nadji specialized in advanced cataract surgery, advanced dry eye management, premium intraocular lenses, and the latest techniques in laser and refractive surgery.


In his free time, Dr. Nadji can be found playing sports and enjoying the weather with his wife and two daughters. Dr. Nadji knows your time is valuable and aims for each patient to leave informed and satisfied.

I welcome you to our website, and hopefully, at some point, to our office located in Encino, California. The purpose of this website is to give potential patients some basic information about my office and myself, David Paikal, MD. My practice specializes in comprehensive ophthalmology, where I favor conservative approaches, striving to be true to the bioethical tenet of “first do no harm.”

My staff and I will do everything possible to take the best care of you. The reason we can do so is because we love what we do: helping people to see better. Sometimes, that means admitting that we don’t have all the answers and referring you elsewhere. No one physician knows it all, and my staff and I are fortunate to have strong relationships with various sub-specialists, including academicians at universities, should the need arise.

Educational Background

Dr. Brandon Chuang grew up in Irvine, CA before attending University of California San Diego. He graduated with a BS in Biology in 2013. He then earned his Doctorate of Optometry from New England College of Optometry in Boston, MA in 2018.

After graduation, he pursued a residency in ocular disease and primary care at the Veteran’s Affairs Hospital of Brockton, Massachusetts. At his residency, he worked closely with world renowned ophthalmologists, comanaging glaucoma, dry eye, uveitis, cataracts, and retinal diseases like macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy. After finishing residency, Dr. Chuang returned to his alma mater as a professor, where he worked as faculty training future optometrists for 2 years before returning to Orange County.

Dr. Chuang has been described as a compassionate eyecare provider who is committed to high quality patient care. His specialty is glaucoma, but he considers himself a jack of all trades given his various clinical experiences. He also enjoys treating dry eye, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, and fitting contact lenses. "It's important for me to be able to give the best level of care to all of my patients, so I stay up to date on all aspects of my clinical care and new technologies."

Outside of clinic, Dr. Chuang enjoys playing tennis, watching NBA basketball, hiking, and spending time with his wife, daughter, and dog.

Dr. Kline graduated magna cum laude from Harvard University and obtained his medical degree cum laude from Yale University School of Medicine. He received his training in ophthalmology at the Moran Eye Center at the University of Utah, where he served as Chief Resident. Dr. Kline’s field of expertise includes cataract surgery using the newest techniques and lens implants, including advanced-technology intraocular lenses for the correction of near and distance vision and astigmatism. He provides free educational seminars and screenings for refractive surgery and performs many refractive procedures, including LASIK using the latest bladeless techniques. Dr. Kline provides medical eye examinations for both health maintenance and disease conditions including glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetic retinopathy. In addition, he offers contact lens fitting and spectacle prescription services. He is also trained in functional and cosmetic eyelid surgery including Botox.

Paul Lang, M.D. is a board certified ophthalmologist with fellowship training in cornea, external diseases, and refractive surgery. Dr. Lang attended Cornell University, where he graduated magna cum laude and was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa honor society. He then returned to California to attend the Keck School of Medicine of USC, graduating with distinction in research. He stayed to complete his ophthalmology residency training at the USC Roski Eye Institute and LA General Medical Center. Dr. Lang then completed a fellowship in cornea, external diseases, and refractive surgery at the world renowned Shiley Eye Institute at UC San Diego. In addition to treating cataracts and providing laser vision correction, Dr. Lang offers comprehensive eye care for conditions such as diabetic eye disease, glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration, and dry eye disease.

Todd Driver, M.D. is a board-certified ophthalmologist with fellowship training in cornea, cataract and LASIK. Originally hailing from Denver, he attended the University of Colorado Boulder. He received his medical degree from the University of California, San Francisco where he graduated at the top of his class and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society. He then completed his ophthalmology residency at the world-renowned UCLA Jules Stein Eye Institute and obtained further training at the prestigious University of California, San Francisco F.I. Proctor Foundation in cornea, external disease, and refractive surgery. Dr. Driver treats a wide variety of eye diseases, but has expertise in cataract and refractive surgery. Judd M. Cahoon, MD, PhD joins Astorino and Associates Eye Center from UCLA where he trained as an ophthalmology resident at the prestigious Stein Eye Institute. He is excited to build his practice in Newport Beach and brings new techniques to the clinic, such as minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS) and extensive experience treating medical retinal disease.

Prior to training at UCLA, Dr. Cahoon obtained his undergraduate degree at the University of Utah on a Presidential Scholarship, honoring in Exercise and Sports Science and minoring in Chinese. 

Dr. Cahoon completed the combined MD/PhD program at the University of Utah School of Medicine. He earned his PhD in Neuroscience studying the underlying mechanisms of and developing a novel treatment for diabetic eye disease. Dr. Cahoon has published multiple scientific papers and presented at both national and international meetings for which he has received numerous awards, including the Outstanding Young Investigator Award and the MIT Outstanding Poster Award. In addition to his basic science work on diabetic retinopathy, he has also published a series of papers on the dynamics of the machines used for cataract surgery.

During his time as a resident at UCLA, Dr. Cahoon was awarded the Medical Student Teaching Award and the Beast Bowler Award. He is fluent in Cantonese and Mandarin and is proficient in Spanish. Dr. Cahoon played rugby in high school and college and now enjoys playing the guitar for his wife and four children.

Dr. Barsegian is a board-certified ophthalmologist who is passionate about providing personalized, detail-oriented care for general ophthalmology and glaucoma patients. She is excited to work alongside her outstanding colleagues at Astorino & Associates Eye Center. In addition to providing comprehensive medical and surgical ophthalmological care including pterygium removal and cataract surgery, she specializes in the complete medical and surgical treatment of glaucoma including minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS), trabeculectomy, and glaucoma tube implant surgery.

Interested in medicine from a young age, Dr. Barsegian was accepted into the prestigious Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education, an accelerated 7 year BS/MD program in New York City that selects the top students in NYC who exhibit academic excellence. She received her medical degree from State University of New York (SUNY) Downstate Medical Center. During medical school, she was inducted into the selective Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Honors Society and was awarded the prestigious Mack Lipkin Broader Horizons Fellowship, a research fellowship and grant that allowed her to pursue cardiac stem cell research in the world-renowned Hôpital Saint Louis in Paris, France. After graduating as one of the youngest doctors in the country, she stayed at SUNY Downstate Medical Center for her ophthalmology residency training. She then went on to complete two subspecialty fellowships at UCLA: cornea & external disease fellowship at the esteemed Doheny Eye Institute-UCLA and glaucoma fellowship at the world-famous Stein Eye Institute-UCLA. She has co-authored 4 book chapters, has numerous publications in peer-reviewed academic journals, and has presented at over 20 medical society meetings and conferences.

She is currently an active member of the American Glaucoma Society, the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Orange County Society of Ophthalmology, and the Armenian American Medical Society. She speaks fluent Armenian, Russian, and Spanish as foreign languages.  In her free time, she enjoys traveling, exercising, and hiking with her husband.

Arthur Astorino, Jr., MD, is a board-certified ophthalmologist who has been practicing since 1988. He provides exceptional eye care to his patients at Astorino & Associates Eye Center in Newport Beach, California, in areas like general ophthalmology, advanced cataract care, and refractive surgery.

Dr. Astorino earned his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston and completed his ophthalmology residency at the Jules Stein Eye Institute at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He’s currently an associate clinical professor of ophthalmology at UCLA. Dr. Astorino is also a member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery and a fellow of the American Board of Ophthalmology.

In his practice, Dr. Astorino believes in treating his patients as collaborators in their care. He always takes the time to educate them on their conditions and treatment options while bringing warmth, compassion, and professionalism to his services.

Dr. Andrew Lee graduated cum laude and with Phi Beta Kappa honors from UCLA. He then went on to complete his medical degree at the NYU School of Medicine. After his internship in internal medicine at UC Irvine School of Medicine, he went on to complete his residency in ophthalmology at the Northwell Health Eye Institute in New York where he served as chief resident in his final year. Dr. Lee then went on to receive additional training at the Jules Stein Eye Institute at UCLA where he completed a fellowship in Cornea, External Diseases, and Refractive Surgery.  

  A dedicated clinician scientist, Dr. Lee has published several papers in multiple peer-reviewed medical journals regarding topics in cornea, retina, glaucoma, and pediatric ophthalmology. Notably, he was the first to report on acute angle-closure induced by daratumumab, a monoclonal antibody used to treat relapsing multiple myeloma. He finds tremendous joy and satisfaction in improving the health of patients’ eyes, and remains at the forefront of medical knowledge and surgical skills to ensure the best possible outcomes for his patients.    In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his wife and two children. Dr. Scheinhorn received her Doctor of Medicine from Tulane University in New Orleans, where she was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. She was also cited by the American Medical Women’s Association for scholastic achievement. She completed her residency in ophthalmology at Louisiana State University Eye Center in New Orleans.

Dr. Scheinhorn served the community of Glendale, California for over 30 years. She was voted Best Ophthalmologist, Glendale in 2017 and 2018. She has also been honored for her dedication and support of Glendale Healthy Kids.

Scott W. Beeve is a board-certified ophthalmologist practicing at Beeve Vision Care Center in Glendale, California.
