R. Michael Hullander, MD, is a partner at Pacific Pain Physicians in Santa Barbara, California. Dr. Hullander is board-certified in anesthesiology and the subspecialty of pain management. His passion for helping patients break free of their pain not only inspires him in his clinical work at Pacific Pain Physicians, but also in his scientific research pursuits. He has shared his findings with his peers in numerous publications.
Dr. Hullander began his medical career as an undergraduate student at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. He earned his medical degree at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences F. Edward Hébert School of Medicine in Bethesda, Maryland. Between medical school and his residency, Dr. Hullander served as U.S. Navy diving medical officer. Upon completion of his service, he performed an anesthesiology and pain medicine residency at the Naval Medical Center in San Diego, California. Prior to moving to Santa Barbara, he served as director of the Pain Medicine Center at the Naval Medical Center.

Ralph D. Mozingo, DO, is an interventional pain medicine specialist and founding partner of Pacific Pain Physicians in Santa Barbara, California. Board-certified in anesthesiology, Dr. Mozingo’s medical career is marked by quality service provided both to his patients and his country.
He began this journey as a medical student as an undergraduate at UCLA. He earned an osteopathic medicine doctorate at Nova Southeastern University Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. After graduation, Dr. Mozingo completed an internship at the Los Angeles County+USC Medical Center, followed by a three-year stint as an emergency room physician and air evacuation officer for the U.S. Army in Germany. He completed his postdoctoral clinical training with an anesthesiology and pain medicine residency at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. and the Naval Medical Center in San Diego, California.

Dr. Carlos Untal is a highly skilled anesthesiologist with advanced fellowship training in pain management and more than two decades of clinical experience. As a partner at Pacific Pain Physicians in Santa Barbara, California, he specializes in treating a wide range of pain conditions—ranging from routine to complex—with a special focus on cancer-related pain. Known for his thoughtful, compassionate care, Dr. Untal is deeply committed to improving his patients’ quality of life through personalized and evidence-based treatment plans.
Dr. Untal began his medical journey at age 18 when he enlisted as a medic in the United States Air Force. Over ten years of service, including active duty and reserve roles during the Gulf War, shaped his deep sense of discipline, service, and commitment to patient care. He later earned his undergraduate degree from California State University, Sacramento, and completed medical school at Ross University School of Medicine.
He went on to complete his residency in anesthesiology at Case Western Reserve University Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio, where he discovered a strong passion for the field of pain management. Dr. Untal then pursued a specialized fellowship in pain management at the University of California, Davis.
Before joining Pacific Pain Physicians, Dr. Untal practiced interventional pain management in San Luis Obispo, gaining extensive experience with procedures and therapies designed to reduce pain and restore function. Today, he continues to utilize cutting-edge techniques and multidisciplinary strategies to address each patient’s unique needs.
Dr. Untal is an active member of several prominent professional organizations, including the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians (ASIPP), the American Medical Association (AMA), and the North American Neuromodulation Society (NANS). His clinical interests include neuromodulation, intrathecal therapy, interventional procedures, and comprehensive management of cancer-related pain.
