During his residency in general surgery he was also a research fellow at the University of California, Los Angeles School of Medicine where he participated in the laboratory for Regenerative Bioengineering and Repair. He then went on to complete his residency in Plastic Surgery at the prestigious Institute of Reconstructive Plastic Surgery at the NYU School of Medicine. He was trained in plastic surgery at the distinguished faculty of the Institute of Reconstructive Plastic Surgery and Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital. He completed his fellowship in reconstructive microsurgery at the UCLA Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. Also, Dr. Ashjian has refined his skill through years of experience practicing as a board-certified Los Angeles plastic surgeon.

Board certified in Plastic Surgery, Dr. Ashjian is affiliated with Hoag Memorial Hospital, Glendale Adventist Medical Center, Cedars-Sinai Tarzana Medical Center, Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital, Mercy Hospitals of Bakersfield and the Comprehensive Blood and Cancer Center.
