Shana is amazing. I'm so glad that we were able to get our son in to work with her.
Carmen works with our daughter with Down syndrome well. she helps her take a more positive perspective, makes her comfortable enough to talk and makes lists or charts for her to take home. She introduces us to resources.
Shana has connected with my kids immediately. She is able to say the same thing I have said though in a way that my bliss is able to understand. Thus we have made a good amount of progress in a shorter amount of time. Shana also teams up with the parent well to set goals and achieve them as learning and development is continuous.
Carmen has been a good support for our daughter with Down syndrome. She gets a report for parent(s) about what activities Inga has participated in, what was a challenge and what she might want to speak about. Inga talks with Carmen after parent has left them alone. Carmen makes suggestions for how we may identify feelings and has even made a couple of visuals for her to work with.
Carmen was a great therapist for my son and really helped him deal with some of the concerns and challenges. She was super professional and helpful.

Our daughter with Down syndrome has only Medicare and Medicaid coverage for healthcare. It is extremely hard to find a counselor that will take the low compensation offered. We were grateful to find Carmen and willing to travel a little over 1/2 hour to see her. Having had an aunt with Down syndrome, she was willing to establish a relationship and communicate with our daughter. It has been good to have another caring adult to listen to her concerns and help steer reactions to situations.
Shana has been such a light in my life and has helped me through so much. I always look forward to our weekly sessions and can't imagine not having her support. She truly embodies her role and makes me feel safe to disclose anything.
I believe with the right therapist and where you go to therapy can be a key to helping on the journey to a happier healthier life and that's what I found by going to therapy at Hartford Counseling. Carmen's office is a homie type atmosphere which makes it easy to talk to her there at her office. Carmen is easy to talk to and she listened to me and we came up goals to accomplish for me to have that happier healthier life. Carmen helps me with taking one step at a time to accomplish my goals.
It took some time to get comfortable with a therapist so much younger than we are. Over time we have found her to be insightful and she has provided us with valuable resources.
It was just our first meeting, but I can already tell things are going to go very well, and we look forward to our appointments
