He earned his medical degree from the New York University School of Medicine in New York City before continuing his training with a residency in general surgery at NYU-Booth Memorial Medical Center, now known as NewYork-Presbyterian Queens in Queens, New York, where he was chief resident.
Dr. Gayle also completed a plastic surgery residency at New York Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medical Center in New York City. He was also a fellow in hand and microsurgery at the Ralph K. Davies Medical Center in the Microsurgical Replantation Transplantation Department in San Francisco, California.
Throughout his career, Dr. Gayle has held multiple academic appointments as well as positions of authority in numerous medical centers and hospitals. He has contributed substantial research to his field with journal articles, book chapters, and conference presentations.
