Nevada Family Psychiatry is a welcoming and inclusive mental health practice located in downtown Summerlin, Las Vegas. Founded in 2004 by Physician Assistant (PA) and  Doctor of Health Science provider James “Jay” Somers, PA-C, DHSc, the practice provides thoughtful, evidence-based psychiatric care to children (ages 5+), adolescents, and adults. We are proud to serve individuals from all backgrounds, including LGBTQ+ communities and those with diverse spiritual, religious, or secular perspectives.

Jay Somers is a nationally certified PA licensed in Nevada since 2000, with over 27 years of clinical experience in psychiatry. He brings a warm, personalized, and integrative approach to care that emphasizes the whole person, not just symptoms.

He earned his master’s degree from Finch University of Health Sciences/The Chicago Medical School and later completed his Doctorate in Health Science (DHSc) at A.T. Still University. His doctoral research focused on the intersection of nutrition, mental health, and burnout in healthcare professionals, insights that continue to shape his patient-centered approach.

A recognized leader in the profession, PA Somers has served as President of both the National Association of PAs in Psychiatry and the Nevada Academy of PAs. He currently serves as the liaison from the American Academy of PAs to the American Psychiatric Association. He is a frequent national speaker and author on topics ranging from lifestyle psychiatry to emerging treatments in mental health.
