She graduated valedictorian, earned a merit scholarship to the University of Michigan, and went on to Michigan medical school. She matched into emergency medicine at Michigan for residency. Her first choice. Then she switched to psychiatry. Not because it was easier. Because she had spent her whole life watching what happened when people didn't get the kind of care that actually reached them. She knew what condescending looked like. She knew what stiff looked like. She decided she decided she could do it differently.
